Live and Learn in Kenya NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) is a charitable organization with the goal of changing the lives and the futures of children living in poverty in Nakuru, Kenya as well as in other parts of Kenya. Live and Learn in Kenya NGO (LLK) is a German-based registered non-profit, charitable organization. It was founded in 2001 in the small German town, Selb in Fichtelgebirge. They partnered with the Kenyan organization, Live and Learn in Kenya International (LLK Int'l) with the sole goal of assisting LLK Int'l to meet their goals in changing the lives and the futures of children living a desolate life of poverty. Live and Learn in Kenya (LLK) finds sponsors to finance the education of needy children, which includes everything that the child needs in order to go to school; fees, uniform, shoes, textbooks, school supplies. Desolation, hunger and thirst, poverty beyond comprehension, illiteracy, AIDS, child prostitution, child brides - this is what rules the lives of the people - especially the children - living within the Rhonda Slums of Nakuru, Kenya. European and American volunteer organizations are working there to help make changes. LLK raised funds to complete the construction of buildings at the Virginia M. Buena Memorial Center for the Needy in Nakuru, Kenya. They have provided the funding for the construction of a solidly built orphanage for over 140 orphans, mainly AIDS orphans. The second construction, common house, was completed in April 2006. This building is also a solidly built stone structure with a large kitchen, dining hall, library, play and study hall (which will also be used for religious instruction and services), vocational training such as carpentry, tailoring, and secretarial, and workshop classrooms. The center is now run by a Kenyan organization on its own. LLK has a German-based medical/dental partner organization "Arzt- und Zahnarzthilfe Kenya", that provides medical and dental care - including quarterly check-ups and vaccinations. The organization pays the wages for the LLK Int'l staff - including a project manager, social worker, secretary, cook and guard. Their feeding program is a huge success - especially during this time of extreme drought in Kenya . With their "Feed a Smile" project they are able to assure nutritious warm lunches for the nearly 500 children day. All funds are donations. 100% of the donations are transferred directly to Kenya to care for the children, provide education, medicine, food, shelter and the future construction of a Kindergarten and Elementary School. There will be no school fees for the pupils. All fund-raisers and board members are volunteers. The purpose of the organization is the support and assistance to the children and young people in the LLK Int'l program - mainly in Nakuru, Kenya. Through fundraising events and sponsorships LLK provides 100% of the intake to Live and Learn in Kenya Int'l (LLK Int'l) in Nakuru, Kenya which uses the funds for the sole purpose of providing the needy children and youths in the LLK program with free welfare services, in particular for their educational necessities, the construction of a kindergarten, elementary school, vocational training centers, training workshops, medical/dental care and a future hospital and a clinic for the terminally ill AIDS victims, library, clothing and a feeding program. The highest priority is providing the basis for dignity and self-esteem. Chairwoman: Brique - Debra - Zeiner Treasurer: Carola Weinmyer Secretary: Dirk Klemesh
