DAPP Zambia

Development Aid From People to People in Zambia (DAPP Zambia) was registered as a Zambian welfare organization in July 1990. It is a member of the International Humana People to People Federation.
The organization strives, through the implementation of its projects, to work with the needy by providing knowledge, skills and tools that empower them and their families to face and overcome the challenges of everyday life and thereby improve the quality of their live. DAPP Zambia runs projects in 30 districts in 8 provinces of Zambia directly and indirectly reaching about 1 million people.
The projects include the following project lines:
- Integrated community development program "Child Aid". This program focuses on improving lives for rural households. The program works with activities to reduce poverty, improve food security, improve maternal and child health, improve child development and education, conserve the environment and fight HIV/AIDS through a holistic approach.
- The "Total Control of the Epidemic" (TCE) reaches people with a comprehensive HIV/AIDS approach in order to reduce the spread of the AIDS pandemic and to improve care and support for those infected by the virus. Trained "Field Officers" carry out counseling and testing as well as behavior change communication using a door to door approach.
- The "HOPE" projects also deals with HIV issues including the economic strengthening of people living with HIV.
- The "Children's Town" is a project supporting former street children with a rehabilitation program and vocational training and as well runs a community school for children from the surrounding villages.
- The "Farmers Club" projects organizes with small scale farmers in Farmers Clubs and provide training and mobilize the members to improve production and support one another in marketing of the produce.
- The "DAPP Mkushi Teachers Training College" was started in early 2012 in order to train primary school teachers for rural schools.
DAPP Zambia raises funds for its projects through partners including African Water Facility, African Development Bank, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), European Union, Practical Action, Society for Family Health(SFH), UNICEF, USAID Zambia, Water Aid, World Vision and others. The organization also raises funds through the sale of second hand clothes and shoes donated by well wishers in Europe.
DAPP Zambia receives international volunteers (Development Instructors)trained at a number of schools affiliated with Humana People to People including IICD in USA, Den Rejsende Hoejskole in Norway and Den Rejsende Hoejskole i Lindersvold Denmark.
