This is alphabetical list of major characters in the Warcraft universe - a fictional universe in which a series of games and books are set. The characters featured here have been featured prominently at one time or another in the Warcraft universe, and commonly depicted as heroes or villains that contributed to the changes in the Warcraft universe and timeline. Aegwynn (Magna Aegwynn) Magna Aegwynn, Matriarch of Tirisfal, bears the secret guilt for all the misfortune that has befallen Azeroth. The Order of Tirisfal was originally forged by the High Elves to secretly protect the world from crimes of magic, hoping to avoid the folly of their ancestors. These Guardians were given considerable power and longevity. When the order was extended to humans after they too began to learn magic, it was kept as a secret Order amongst only the greatest magi. But over time, the Guardian became a puppet of the Order, and the focus was lost. The Guardian became a warden on all who practiced magic. When Aegwynn became the Guardian, however, she refused to be manipulated. She remained focused on the matter at hand - the crimes at play in Azeroth. Her distrust of the Order led her to become more aloof from them, and would often ignore the Order and their summons entirely. This distressed the Order, as Aegywnn continued to deal with the Burning Legion's demons in a direct and explosive manner, in contrast to their own secretive, careful modus operandi. Unwilling to sacrifice innocents for what the Order believed to be the greater good, Aegwynn scorned the Order, and, in another act of defiance, used her powers as Guardian to prolong her life, enabling her to live hundreds of years, rather than pass on the position to a successor. In one of her most epic encounters, Aegwynn confronted Sargeras and his legions as he was making his entrance into the world, and succeeded in destroying his physical form. In her pride, Aegwynn believed Sargeras finished, when in fact Sargeras allowed his essence to infuse within Aegwynn, where it laid dormant. Finally, Aegwynn heeded the Order of Tirisfal's demands for a successor, but rather than accept an apprentice of their choosing, as customary, Aegwynn courted and consummated with court conjurer, Nielas Aran, an act which resulted in the birth of a son, Medivh (and passed her powers to him, so that when he became an adult, he could not cope with the raw powers and went into a coma for several years) whom Aegwynn left behind to continue her duties as Guardian. Aegwynn would later confront Medivh within his home of Karazhan, and would there learn that Sargeras had not been defeated as she had thought, and that his essence, which had resided within her, infused her son upon his conception, before he was even born, and had been driving and controlling him. Aegwynn barely escaped Medivh's attacks, and hid in solitude. After Medivh was slain by Lord Lothar and Medivh's apprentice, Khadgar, Aegwynn used what little remained of her power to bring her son back to life. Aegwynn would later be discovered from her hiding by Jaina Proudmoore, and would redeem herself by banishing once more a demon that she had battled hundreds of years before. Her guilt thus absolved, she now resides as an aide to Jaina. * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: The Last Guardian * Appears in the novelization Cycle of Hatred Akama Before the orcs' corruption, Akama was a draenei priest at the Temple of Karabor. He was present when the orcs assaulted the temple and massacred anyone they could find; after this "battle", the orcs called it the Black Temple and began practicing their warlock magics with reckless ambition. After the fall of the Temple of Karabor, Akama led a group of his followers into Zangarmarsh to hide out from the orcs. Over time, cut off from the Holy Light, Akama's body began to degenerate until he became a "subspecies" of draenei known as the Broken. Many of his followers, who later became known as the Ashtongue, degenerated with him. The Broken who remained on Draenor, now called Outland, were often used as slaves - or targets - for the Burning Legion forces in Outland, led at the time by the Pit Lord Magtheridon. Magtheridon set up shop in the Black Temple, abandoned since the creation of Outland, and began creating armies of fel orcs and summoning legions of demons. Akama and his tribe lived in seclusion in Outland until the arrival of Illidan Stormrage. Illidan told Akama that their enemy was the same, and that his people would be avenged if they agreed to serve the Betrayer. Akama aided Illidan in sealing off the portals used by Magtheridon to summon reinforcements. During the siege of the Black Temple, Akama and his Broken assassins - able to sneak past Magtheridon's defenses - paved the way for Illidan's attack and his duel with Magtheridon. After defeating and imprisoning Magtheridon, Illidan declared himself Lord of Outland. Akama realized that he had aided in the overthrow of one tyrannical madman only to see him replaced with another - but he could not oppose Illidan directly, for a portion of Akama's soul was still bound to the Betrayer's will...the price paid for his loyalty. Akama became the jailor for Illidan's hated nemesis, Maiev Shadowsong, at a place called the Warden's Cage in Shadowmoon Valley, west of the Black Temple. But Akama's loyalties were no longer entirely with Illidan. He and his elite guard, the Ashtongue Deathsworn, tried to re-discover their connection to the Light and the naaru that had aided them in their escape from Argus, millennia earlier. When the time was right, Akama would free Maiev, and they would both enter the Black Temple and do battle with Illidan - and finally end his reign of terror over Outland. Akama's name is believed to be a play on words; the draenei in Warcraft III are seen to wield scythe-like weapons similar to the Japanese kama, or "hand scythe" as it is sometimes called. However, Akama himself only wields one (hence, A kama, which was eventually combined for his name) - the other weapon in his hand, as seen in World of Warcraft, is some kind of axe. * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne * Appears in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Alexstrasza Alexstrasza is one of the five Aspects and and the leader of the Red Dragonflight. She is the leader of the Aspects and is also the "Queen of Life". Her younger sister is who is also an aspect and called "She of the Dreaming", ruler of the Emerald Dream. She was a friend of Neltharion until his betrayal and eventual transformation into Deathwing the Destroyer. Alexstrasza, upon being informed of the existence of another Well of Eternity by Malfurion, placed a single acorn seed in the middle of the well which grew up to become the World Tree. Alexstrasza was held captive by an Orc Warlock named Nekros Skullcrusher, by means of a special artifact called the "Demon Soul" which was created by Neltharion by trapping the energies of the other four Aspects. She was forced to breed and her young dragons fought against the Alliance. She was able to escape her enslavement by the assistance of a young human mage named Rhonin and her favored consort, the dragon Korialstrasz (also known as Krasus, when in his human mage form). She killed her former captor, thus ending the final bastion of Orc power during the Second War. Currently resides in Grim Batol, a former Dwarf stronghold. Her main consorts are Tyranastrasz (Tyran), the Scholarly One and Korialstrasz (Krasus). * Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy * Appears in Warcraft: Day of the Dragon Alleria Windrunner Alleria Windrunner was a hero of Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, the sister of , and , hero of Warcraft: Day of the Dragon. Alleria was featured in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, where she is first escorted by the Paladin Turalyon and Danath to New Stormwind Keep. Then, she and her allies are seen defending Human towns and fortifications from the oncoming Orc threat. Her whereabouts after Beyond the Dark Portal are unknown, and she is speculated to be either dead or to have barely made it to safety (as in the case of Khadgar and his companions). A huge statue stands in her honor at Stormwind during World of Warcraft, which seems to suggest that she died on Draenor when the world tore apart, but the statue's plaque indicates that her fate is unknown to those of Stormwind, and that she is simply assumed to be dead (effectively "Missing In Action".) It is known that she survived at least for a time after the events of Beyond the Dark Portal and may still be alive somewhere in Outland. Her son with Turalyon, Arator the Redeemer, is an adult as of Burning Crusade, and a half-elf Paladin, and is currently in Outland looking for his parents. Her sister, Sylvanas, still loves her as can be seen after completing a quest as a Blood elf in The Burning Crusade in which the player has to return a lost necklace that Alleria gifted to Sylvanas causing Sylvanas to sing Lament of the Highborne. * Appears in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal * Appears in World of Warcraft: Tides of Darkness Aman'thul Aman'thul, known as the Highfather, was one of the Titans that visited and shaped the world of Azeroth. There the Titans encountered and defeated the evil Old Gods and imprisoned them deep underground. When they completed their task, they charged the great dragons with watching over Kalimdor. Aman'thul imbued a portion of his vast power onto to guard time itself and police the ever-spinning pathways of fate and destiny. Anasterian Sunstrider Anasterian Sunstrider was the last High King of Quel'Thalas, who ruled during the Second and Third Wars, and was the father of the current "Lord of the Blood Elves", Prince Kael'thas. During the Second War, Anasterian reluctantly pledged Quel'Thalas' service to the Alliance in order to repay the debt owed to the descendants of the Arathi bloodline - in this case, the last pureblood Arathi, Anduin Lothar. After Lothar's death and the end of the Second War, Anasterian withdrew his nation from the Alliance, citing the humans' poor leadership which resulted in the burning of their borderlands, and also believing that the debt to the Arathi - and thus, to the human race - was fulfilled with Lothar's death. Anasterian ruled until the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas, when the corrupted Prince Arthas led his legions of undead to the Sunwell in order to resurrect the slain necromancer Kel'Thuzad. Anasterian was killed in battle against the Scourge, along with the entire Convocation of Silvermoon, Quel'Thalas' ruling council. His skull, currently in the possession of his son Kael'thas, is believed to be a component required by the Dragonflights of Azeroth to restore the Sunwell. *Appears in the novel World of Warcraft: Tides of Darkness Anduin Lothar Anduin Lothar was Champion of King Llane of Azeroth, staunch defender of Azeroth until his death, and Best friend to Medivh and Llane in their childhood days. From the fall of Azeroth to Lothar's death at the end of the Second War, he was Regent of Stormwind, ruling the Azerothian remnant in the place of the then-infant King Varrian Wrynn. He was the last remaining descendant of the Arathi bloodline, the first line of Humans on Azeroth. * Appears in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans * Appears in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness * Appears in Warcraft: The Last Guardian * Appears in World of Warcraft: Tides of Darkness Anveena Teague Shortly after the Third War, the red dragon Korialstrasz found the remaining energies of the Sunwell, the high elves' source of magic. Not wanting the power to fall into the hands of the Lich King, Korialstrasz formed the energies into a humanoid avatar - a peasant girl named Anveena Teague. Hiding the truth of her powers, Korialstrasz created the illusion of a full life with a loving family. What he did not expect, however, was that Anveena would literally come to life on her own, with human feelings and emotions through his masterful illusion. Her home in Tarren Mill was destroyed by the Scourge, led by the elven traitor Dar'Khan Drathir, who sought the energies of the Sunwell for himself. After the "death" of her "parents", Anveena travelled with the blue dragon Kalecgos (Kalec), his intended Tyrygosa (Tyri) and the human paladin Jorad Mace. While in the Alterac Mountains, Anveena was taken in by a Forsaken nobleman named Baron Valimar Mordis, who sensed the power about her and intended to use her energies in conjunction with one of the powerful Orbs of Ner'zhul to raise an undead army to combat the Scourge. Though the Baron was defeated, Anveena was then kidnapped by Dar'Khan, who had discovered the truth behind this unassuming (and unsuspecting) peasant girl. Dar'Khan took her across the plague-ravaged lands of Quel'Thalas to the remnants of the Sunwell Plateau, where he attempted to siphon off the magic within her. However, the immense power within her awoke, and she lashed out against the traitor, destroying him. * Appears in Warcraft: The Sunwell Trilogy Arthas Menethil Son of King Terenas Menethil, former Prince and Paladin of the Kingdom of Lordaeron; in the land of Northrend he took up the cursed runeblade Frostmourne, becoming a Death Knight. Now fused with the Lich King, he has become one of the most powerful beings the universe has ever seen. Leader of the Scourge, and technically still King of Lordaeron, although that kingdom is now defunct and its surviving subjects would likely not acknowledge Arthas as their king in any event. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne * Appears in Warcraft: Of Blood and Honor * Appears in Warcraft: Day of the Dragon * Appears in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King * Appears in World of Warcraft: Tides of Darkness Azshara Before and during the first coming of the burning legion, Azshara was queen of the Night elves. When Lord Xavius and several Highbourne magi opened a portal to the Twisting Nether, she became partially entranced and attempted to help bring and the Burning Legion to Kalimdor, which is what the one continent was called at that time. (In Richard A. Knaak's "War of the Ancients", the hero Wizard Rhonin and the dragon mage Korialstrasz are transported back in time, where they affect history.) When the City of Zin-Azshari sank in the Sundering, Azshara was contacted by the Old Gods, who then transformed her, and her most trusted lieutenants into the Naga. Queen Azshara now resides in the vast naga capital of Nazjatar (formerly Zin-Azshari) at the bottom of the ocean, under a vast whirlpool known as the Maelstrom. She has embraced the power of the naga, grown in size, and possesses many tentacles bedecked in jewels and items of power. She plots her revenge on the treacherous Night Elves, biding her time until the growing might of the naga can be brought to bear. * Appears in the Warcraft manuals. * Also appears in the War of The Ancients Trilogy Blackhand Blackhand the Destroyer was leader of the Blackrock clan, father of Rend, Maim and Griselda. Originally a Raider of the Sythegore Arm and Chieftain of the Blackrock Clan, Gul'dan made him Warchief of the Horde. While Chieftain, he was merely a puppet for Gul'dan and the Shadow Council. His base of operations was the Fortress at Blackrock Spire, featured in the Warcraft I scenarios (during the timeframe known as the First War). He was overthrown and killed by Orgrim Doomhammer when Doomhammer discovered he was being used by Gul'dan. * Appears in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. * Appears in the novel World of Warcraft: Rise of the Horde. Broxigar (Brox) An Orc veteran, sent by Warchief Thrall to investigate a strange vision by a shaman. Broxigar ended up being sent back in time along with the human wizard Rhonin and dragon-mage Krasus to fight the first war against the Burning Legion. During the final battle against the Legion, he jumped into the vortex to the Twisting Nether and held off the demons long enough for Rhonin and Krasus to collapse the portal. He was killed by himself after managing to wound the titan with the axe given to him by . Krasus returned the axe to Thrall and told the Warchief of Broxigar It should also be noted that took great interest in the Orc, seeing potential in him, most likely leading the Pit Lord to seek out the world that had more of them (although why it took him thousands of years to find it is as yet unexplained). Currently Broxigar's brother the High Warlord Saurfang wields his mighty axe. *Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients Trilogy Cairne Bloodhoof Chieftain of the Tauren in Thunder Bluff, and a Shaman by profession. Father of Baine Bloodhoof. Cairne and his people were saved from the Centaur by Thrall and his warriors. He then repaid their aid by joining The Horde. He is considered one of the most dangerous creatures alive. Currently leads his people from Thunder Bluff, although he yearns for the day he can step down and retire to the wilds. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne * Appears in World of Warcraft Captain Placeholder For a short time, transport between zones via boat was unstable from Menethil Harbor to Darkshore. Specifically, a bug in the game caused the boat to disappear while transitioning between zones, dumping its passengers into the open sea and to their deaths. Captain Placeholder was placed on the dock at Menethil Harbor as a temporary solution while boat transport was suspended pending a fix. Captain Placeholder would teleport players to the Darkshore dock instantly when asked. A similar NPC named Noteo was placed at the Darkshore dock. Both NPC's were removed when the boats were fixed. * Appears in World of Warcraft Cenarius The demigod of the Night Elves. He was slain by Grom Hellscream under the influence of the demon bloodlust after he was tricked into taking the corrupted waters of a Cenarian Moon Well, which placed him and the Warsong Orcs under the influence of the Burning Legion for a second time. It should be noted that only the earthly manifestation of Cenarius was killed. His spirit lives on in the Emerald Dream, where he fights against the Nightmare that has consumed the Dream and the once-noble Green Dragonflight. Cenarius is the son of and Malorne the White Stag, who was an ancient woodland god. He was adopted by when Elune saw that she couldn't take care of him. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos * Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy Cho'gall The first of the Ogre-Magi, Chieftain of the Twilight's Hammer Clan and apprentice of Gul'dan, who tutored him before the invasion of Azeroth. More loyal to his master than to the Horde, Cho'gall later joined his Warlock master in betraying Orgrim Doomhammer and sailed with him to the Tomb of . Cho'gall was killed by warriors loyal to Orgrim Doomhammer, while guarding the entrance to the Tomb. * Appears in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness Daelin Proudmoore Grand Admiral Daelin Proudmoore was the father of the sorceress Jaina Proudmoore and the ruler of the nation of Kul Tiras. He commanded the Alliance Fleets and was an ally of Stormwind. He was killed by after a failed attack against the Orc country of Durotar.Jaina had later become the leader of Lordaeron * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne * Appears in Warcraft : Day of the Dragon * Appears in Warcraft: Of Blood and Honor * Appears in World of Warcraft:Tides of Darkness Dagran Thaurissan Dagran Thaurissan is the Emperor of Blackrock and the master of the Dark Iron Clan, a group of dwarves who battled the Bronzebeard and Wildhammer clans for supremacy in a conflict known as the War of the Three Hammers. Though the Emperor is the titular leader of the Dark Iron Clan, in truth he is no more than a pawn of the Firelord, Ragnaros, summoned by his ancestor when the war had turned against the Dark Irons. Recently, the Emperor kidnapped Moira Bronzebeard, daughter of King Magni, and forced her to marry him. She is pregnant with his child, who will be both the heir to the King of Ironforge and the Emperor of Blackrock. The Emperor resides in Blackrock Depths, where he directs Ragnaros' war against the black dragon Nefarian by sending his Dark Irons against the Dark Horde controlled by the son of Deathwing. * Appears in World of Warcraft Danath Trollbane Danath Trollbane is the nephew of Lord Thoras Trollbane of Stromgarde, and a mercenary captain of Stromgarde's militia. During the Second War, he assisted in the defense of Stromgarde, and led the human army that liberated Khaz Modan. Later, he became overseer of the internment camp system for the captured orcs, based out of New Stormwind (after leaving for Draenor, he was replaced by Aedelas Blackmoore, and the headquarters for the camps moved to Durnholde Keep), and was called on to reinforce Nethergarde Keep when the orcs reopened the Dark Portal. He joined the Alliance Expedition to Draenor as the tactical advisor to General Turalyon, and was believed dead (along with the remainder of the expedition) when the Dark Portal was sealed. In World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, Danath (referred to as "Force Commander Danath Trollbane") is alive and well in the Hellfire Peninsula of Outland. He is the master of Honor Hold, the primary Alliance fortress in Hellfire, where he directs the battle against the Burning Legion and the "Fel Horde", a legion of demon-corrupted orcs in the service of Illidan, based out of nearby Hellfire Citadel. * Appears in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal * Appears in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Dar'Khan Drathir Dar'Khan Drathir was a member of the Convocation of Silvermoon, the High Council of Quel'Thalas, and was a friend of the future Regent Lord Lor'themar Theron. He eventually descended into madness due to lack of recognition for his part in making Quel'Thalas what it was, which - combined with his own egotistical nature - made him easy to manipulate. The Destroyer of Lordaeron, Arthas Menethil, reached out to guide Dar'Khan, who decided to allow his "Blessed Lord" entry into Quel'Thalas - believing that Arthas intended to aid him in stealing the power of the Sunwell. Arthas used the Sunwell's power to resurrect , fouling the magical waters, and cutting the elves off from their source of magic. Dar'Khan, not knowing Arthas' role in the destruction of the Sunwell, was ashamed of his perceived failure to gain control of it, and immediately went to find where the remaining magic had gone. After searching for many years, Dar'Khan found where it had gone - he had detected the magic near a peasant girl named Anveena Teague, who had been created as the "avatar of the Sunwell" by the red dragon Korialstrasz. Dar'Khan - now a powerful necromancer and leader of Scourge forces, discovered this for himself - and confronted her with the truth of her existence. Anveena, aided by her allies, lashed out at the treacherous Dar'Khan with pure energy from the Sunwell. Dar'Khan, by that time more lich than elf, was annihilated by the powerful magical attack. The Lich King appears to have resurrected Dar'Khan, however, and has placed him in command of the Scourge forces in Quel'Thalas. His headquarters is the Tower of the Damned, located in the center of the Scourge fortress of Deatholme in the southern Ghostlands, practically right over the hills from the Scourge bastion of Stratholme. * Appears in The Sunwell Trilogy Warcraft manga * Appears in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Dath'Remar Sunstrider First leader of the High Elves of Lordaeron. Originally one of Queen 's night elf Highborne, he and a small group of renegade Highborne aided in the escape of High Priestess from the fallen capital of Zin-Azshari during the War of the Ancients. They were subsequently permitted to rejoin the legions of the Night Elf defenders, though they never fully regained the Night Elves' trust. Several centuries later, the remaining Highborne were exiled from Kalimdor by the Night Elf Druids (led by ) for using the forbidden magics of the Well of Eternity. Leading the Highborne forces across The Great Sea, Dath'Remar landed his fleet on the shores of the continent which would later be known by men as Lordaeron. The Highborne (now renamed by themselves the High Elves) founded their kingdom of Quel'Thalas in the north of the continent and constructed their capital city of Silvermoon on the ruins of an ancient troll metropolis. Using water from the Well of Eternity bottled by , Dath'remar created a new source of magical power for the High Elves, which he named the Sunwell. Dath'Remar Sunstrider is the ancestor of Prince , and a large memorial tablet made in his honour exists on Sunstrider Isle. * Appears in the War of the Ancients Trilogy Drek'Thar The Elder Shaman Drek'Thar is the chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan. In the years following the Second War, Drek'Thar taught Thrall about his roots. While the majority of Orcs had become lethargic and were forced into internment camps, Drek'Thar preserved the Frostwolf clan in isolation. Upon Thrall's arrival, Drek'Thar was able to impart the ancient wisdom of the shaman, concerning their mutualistic relationship with the elements of the natural world. After helping to found the nation of Durotar, the elder shaman returned to the Frostwolf tribe in Alterac Valley to lead them against the encroaching Stormpike Dwarves who began transgressive excavations in the area. He must be defeated by Alliance players to win the Battleground Alterac Valley. Prior to the release of the expansion The Burning Crusade, Drek’Thar had more kills of players than any other NPC in the game. As part of a scripted event, Drek'Thar accompanies Thrall to the plains of Nagrand in Outland, where they encounter the only clan of uncorrupted orcs in either Draenor or Azeroth - the Mag'har. * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: Lord of the Clans * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne * Appears in World of Warcraft * Appears in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade * Appears in the novelization World of Warcraft: Rise of the Horde Durotan Father of the Warchief Thrall, allies with Orgrim Doomhammer. Previously chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan which was banished by Gul'dan. Durotan was murdered by Gul'dan's assassins along with his wife and his wolf companion. A stone shrine has been erected in his honor in the Alterac Valley, his home where he led the Frostwolf Clan. names Durotar, the new orc homeland he is forging, after Durotan. * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: Lord of the Clans * Appears in the novelization World of Warcraft: Rise of the Horde Edwin VanCleef Head of the Stonemason's Guild and one of the peerless architects who helped rebuild the city of Stormwind, VanCleef and his fellow Stonemasons were denied payment for their efforts after the First War. Standing with his fellow disenfranchised workers instead of accepting a bureaucratic position as a payoff, he formed the Defias Brotherhood to seek revenge against Stormwind. Elune The Night Elf goddess of the night and moon. She gives protection to the Night Elves whenever the moon is out, allowing them to be close to invisible. She also fills the Night Elves' moonwells with healing light. Eranikus A dragon of great power. Eranikus is a member of Ysera's Green Dragonflight who live between the mortal plane and the Emerald Dream where they watch over nature and the natural progression of life. Eranikus was one of the dragons that confronted the Atal'ai trolls in the Swamp of Sorrows and attempted to halt the summoning of the Blood God, Hakkar. With the outbreak of the "Emerald Nightmare," Eranikus has fallen into the same madness that many others of the Green dragonflight now wrestle with. The Shade of Eranikus, an ethereal projection of his actual self, is encountered as a boss in the Temple of Atal'Hakkar in World of Warcraft. The dragon, who you can briefly speak with through a quest, reveals his torment within the Emerald Dream. As of the World of Warcraft 1.9 Patch, a server-wide alert can ring out that states: "Eranikus, Tyrant of the Dream, has entered our world!" It is revealed that Eranikus has been corrupted by the forces behind the Emerald Nightmare and now seeks the death of Malfurion Stormrage. Eranikus is a part of the questline that need to be done to open the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. He can be summoned to Nighthaven in Moonglade by Keeper Remulos, the current head of the Cenarion Circle, after players return to him 4 fragments of the Nightmare recovered from the 4 Dream Portals dotted around Azeroth in Ashenvale, the Hinterlands, Duskwood, and Feralas. When summoned, Eranikus attempts to kill Remulos when he fails to produce Stormrage, but, assuming the player can stop him for long enough, Tyrande Whisperwind arrives in time to prevent him from doing so and calls for the power of Elune to cleanse him of his corruption. Upon doing so, another server-wide alert goes out, informing the world that Eranikus has been cleansed of his corruption due to the power of Elune. *Appears in the World of Warcraft Garona Garona Halforcen was (as her name implies) a half-orc who served as an assassin for the Shadow Council. She first appears in Warcraft: Orcs & Humans during an orc campaign mission when the player has to rescue her from capture. She is further discussed in the book Warcraft: The Last Guardian, where it's revealed that she acted as a diplomat between the early Horde invaders and the humans through . Serving Medivh, she meets a young , still apprenticed under Medivh at the time, who distrusts her because of her Orc heritage. Over time, the two begrudgingly accept one another and even begin to form trust, trying to discover the truth behind the odd happenings in Karazhan, Medivh's tower. When Medivh loses himself to the power of , Garona has a premonition that she will be the one to kill King Llane, and thus knows that she will live through her ordeal within Medivh's tower. While attempting to attack Medivh from behind while Khadgar had him distracted, Medivh turns and grabbed her by the forehead and forced his visions of suffering and treachery into her mind, making her curl up in a ball on the floor sobbing. At the end of the battle, Khadgar could not find her. She carries out her destiny, while in tears, and carves out King Llane's heart, under the orders of the Shadow Council. After the First Great War, when Blackhand is usurped by , the new Warchief tortures Garona into revealing the location of the Shadow Council, which is quickly dispatched, now seating Doomhammer as true ruler of the Horde. Garrosh grew up knowing that his father had been responsible for the Red Pox, the demonic corruption that created the fel orcs and enslaved the Horde to the powerful Burning Legion. As a result, Garrosh has gone into a brooding depression and believes that his race - most especially his line - is cursed. As a result, he does not act decisively as he should against the forces who seek to destroy his people - the Burning Legion, the Illidari, and the ogres of Nagrand. His spirits are revitalized upon a visit from Thrall, the Warchief of the Horde and Grom's best friend, who reveals that Grom died a hero against the evil Mannoroth. It was announced at BlizzCon 2007 that Garrosh - now much more aggressive, but a little too much for Thrall's liking...much like Grom himself - will lead the Horde expedition to the Borean Tundra in western Northrend, and will set up the fortress of Warsong Hold. In Warcraft III it is shown that his mission failed and he was killed alongside Cho'gall by the Demons defending Sargeras' tomb. This however contradicts Warcraft II wherein Gul'Dan is slain by the player, and the Demons are enemies you have to fight through which work with Gul'Dan. Eventually, a few tribes realized Hakkar was using them to regain his full power in this world in order to conquer it all, and rebelled against him and his followers. In the bloody battle that ensued, Hakkar was banished and the Troll tribes splintered. Hakkar's followers were exiled from the tribes, but they did not stop in their quest to serve. The exiles banded together to form a new tribe devoted to his service, they were known as the Hakkari, and they were determined to see Hakkar regain his full power. Eventually, Hakkar was again not pleased with simple blood sacrifices, and demanded to be summoned into the world. It was then when the Hakkari finally realised that Hakkar was evil. However, a fanatical faction of the Hakkari, known as the Atal'ai (his High Priests in fact), believed that Hakkar should be summoned. The Hakkari called upon the most powerful and mysterious troll tribe, the Zandalar Tribe from the South Seas, and with them united to destroy the Atal'Ai. However, the remaining Atal'Ai trolls fled north into the Swamp of Sorrows erecting a temple to summon Hakkar, named the Temple of Atal'Hakkar. There, they once again attempted to summon the Blood God into Azeroth, but Ysera, ruler of the Green Dragonflight, felt Hakkar's unnatural spirit from the Emerald Dream and smashed the temple beneath the marshlands of the Swamp of Sorrows. Mekkatorque is hailed as one of the most skilled inventors ever, and as a just leader. Unfortunately, when the Troggs invaded Gnomeregan, the High Tinker was ill-prepared for the attack. Kargath and the Shattered Hand Clan served and the Horde by staying behind on Draenor and watching over the land while the Orcs waged war upon the Humans on Azeroth. After the Bleeding Hollow Clan returned from Azeroth, Kargath volunteered his clan to go into battle against the Humans. After entering Azeroth, Kargath and his clan were stranded when the majority of the portals back to Draenor were destroyed. Since then, Kargath's activities are unknown until the Dark Portal opened and he was found to be under demonic influence as the leader of the fel orcs. * Appears in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, under the name Korgath Bladefist Kel'Thuzad A former mage and member of the Kirin Tor, he became obsessed with magic and necromancy until he joined the forces of the Lich King, . Khanzo had headed up the Blackrock Scouts Division and was responsible for searching for human settlements to raid and making quick attacks on passing convoys of foolish wanderers. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Khaz'goroth Khaz'goroth is one of the Titans of the Pantheon, known as the Earth-Shaper. With the help of Eonar, patron of all lives, female Titan, he created the Earthen to help him to shape the lands. The Earthern had a fault, evidence by their transformation into either Troggs or Dwarves (which Khaz'goroth found to be somewhat superior) under certain unspecified "stressful" conditions. Kil'jaeden Known as the Deceiver, second in power only to Sargeras himself, he and were singled out by Sargeras as his generals for his Burning Legion. Kil'Jaeden is the leader of the Nathrezim, also known as Dreadlords. It is Kil'Jaeden who creates the Lich King by forming a dark pact with the Orc Warlock and it is Kil'Jaeden who later appoints the task of destroying the Lich King. He manipulated the human mage into travelling into the orc-controlled stronghold of Grim Batol and free Alexstrasza from the powers of the Demon Soul, a foul artifact created by Deathwing ten thousand years earlier. After freeing Alexstrasza, Krasus resided with her for a time, bearing witness to the invasion of the Scourge, and its annihilation of Dalaran, Lordaeron and Quel'Thalas. When Khadgar and Turalyon led the invasion of Draenor, Kurdran and Sky'ree joined them as scouts. They were believed to have been killed, along with the rest of the Expedition, when Draenor was destroyed. However, they survived and reside in Shadowmoon Valley. Kurdran is the Thane of Wildhammer Stronghold, the Alliance's primary outpost and gryphon breeding center. Shadowbreaker is responsible for instructing Paladins who have become worthy enough in how to obtain their Charger mounts. *Appears in World of Warcraft Lor'themar Theron Lor'themar Theron is the Regent Lord of Quel'Thalas, leading the blood elves in the service of the Horde. Lor'themar was a member of Silvermoon's Ranger Corps; it was during this period that he met Dar'Khan Drathir. Serving as second-in-command to Ranger-General Sylvanas Windrunner during the defense of Silvermoon, he became Ranger-General himself upon Sylvanas' death. When Prince Kael'thas returned from Dalaran and proclaimed the rebirth of the high elves as the sin'dorei (blood elves), he named Lor'themar as Regent while Kael joined the Alliance resistance in Lordaeron. Lor'themar continued the battle against the Scourge in Quel'Thalas, and discovered the true identity of the human peasant girl held prisoner by Dar'Khan - she was the avatar of the Sunwell. She is bestowed with the title of Elder Crone of the Grimtotem Clan, her position is equivalent to that of a clan chieftain, which is the fruition of a desire for power and prestige that was with her nearly her whole life. She came to power after she entered into an arranged marriage with the patriarch of the clan, which many can only suspect that she arranged herself, and lost her mate to an unforeseen climbing accident. Her clan believes that she will be the one to lead them in eradicating Kalimdor of the lesser races, and in retaking the Tauren's ancestral holdings. Magni Bronzebeard Magni Bronzebeard, the eldest of the three Bronzebeard brothers, is the reigning King of Ironforge. After losing his realm to the Horde, he joined the Alliance, which helped him and his kind to reclaim their ancient lands. He remained steadfast to the Alliance after the Second War. He also sponsored the Explorer's Guild, created after the discovery of the dwarves' ancient heritage, and established by his brother, Muradin Bronzebeard. After the death of his brother Muradin in Northrend due to Arthas's insanity, Magni has become overwrought with pain. * Appears in World of Warcraft Magtheridon A Pit Lord of great power who ruled over Outland after Draenor was shattered.He had under his control vast legions of Fel Orcs, Succubi, Voidwalkers, Doomguards and even some Eredar. As the plague spread through the streets of Stratholme, Mal'Ganis faced and confronted Arthas but refused to fight him and went to the icy continent of Northrend. Arthas followed him and fought through the Undead ranks with the help of Muradin Bronzebeard and his Dwarven Expeditionary Corps. Arthas then recovered Frostmourne in a bid to defeat the Scourge and Mal'Ganis. After recovering the accursed blade which killed Muradin when Arthas took it up, a mighty battle ensued and Arthas faced Mal'Ganis at his Black Citadel. It is he who finally stops Archimonde's attempt on the World Tree at Mt. Hyjal. A druid of great power, he is part of the faction which stood against Azshara and her Highborne magic practitioners and led to the destruction of the Well of Eternity. Before awoke him using the Horn of Cenarius, he was fulfilling his oath to Ysera by walking the paths of the Emerald Dream. He is a disciple of the demigod Cenarius, and is the twin brother of . He is responsible for having Illidan imprisoned after the creation of a second Well of Eternity at Mt. Hyjal and appointed the Warden personally to watch over Illidan. When the Burning Legion and Archimonde advance on Mt. Hyjal, he and Tyrande venture into the Barrow Dens to awake the Druids of the Claw and Druids of the Talon to help defend the Well of Eternity. Tyrande splits off from him in order to free Illidan. He is the lover of Tyrande Whisperwind after winning her heart after both him and Illidan sought it. This relationship is important because Illidan along with Malfurion saved Tyrande from the burning legion. He is also known as a "Shan'do" meaning the "Honored Teacher". The power of Neltharion's Demon Soul, however, completely devastated the blue dragonflight. The loss of his flight sent Malygos into despair and madness (hence his nickname, Mad Malygos), and he lost all interest in the rest of the world. Malygos would not recover his sanity for 10000 years, when he would assist the other Aspects in freeing Alexstrasza, the Aspect of Life, and regain his powers when the Demon Soul was destroyed. It was only through the actions of the dragon-mage Krasus that the blue dragonflight was able to slowly grow once more, for he had saved what few blue dragon eggs he could when the magic that had protected them from the cold failed due to Malygos's neglect after he had gone mad. Having seen the recent spate of uncontrolled magic in Azeroth, Malygos has declared war on all spellcasters from his lair in Northrend. This was called the Blood Pact. Mannoroth was killed by the Orcish chieftain . Unbeknownst to her, Sargeras had infused a portion of his spirit within Aegwynn, which he then used to possess her unborn child. The last of the long line of the Guardians of Tirisfal, sworn to defend Azeroth from the Burning Legion, he instead brought chaos under Sargeras' influence, opening the Dark Portal and allowing the orcs to invade Azeroth. He was slain by his longtime friend, Anduin Lothar, and his apprentice, Khadgar, at the height of the First War. Redeemed to corporeal form by his mother Aegwynn, he is the person responsible for the two year alliance between humans and orcs. It was Thermaplugg who suggested flooding the city with radiation in order to kill the invading Troggs. However, the radiation destroyed the city, killed most of the population and only served to strengthen the Troggs. Thermaplugg was apparently aware that this would happen, and engineered this event as a part of his plot to take control of the city. Horribly mutated by the radiation and driven insane by powerlust, Thermaplugg now resides in the lowest levels of the irradiated city, ruling over it with an army of Leper Gnomes and machines. * Appears in World of Warcraft Mephistroth Mephistroth is a member of the Burning Legion, a Nathrezim, Dreadlord and lieutenant of , Mephistroth remained in the Twisting Nether with during the Third War. He did not share Anetheron's near-fanatical devotion to , leading to speculation that he in fact served . When Archimonde came to Azeroth, he brought Anetheron with him, but Mephistroth remained behind in the Twisting Nether, presumably to maintain order within the Nathrezim ranks as Third. Even after the systematic death of Tichondrius, Anetheron, and Archimonde, and the later deaths of and , and also the betrayal of to the Banshee Queen, Mephistroth remained intact (he is presumed to have taken the place of both Tichondrius and Anetheron as leader of the Dreadlords), waiting to wreak his havoc on the world another day. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Highlord Mograine the Ashbringer Mograine was a Commander in the Alliance army and a warrior or paladin in the service of the Silver Hand during the Second War. During the Battle of Blackrock Spire, he took a dark crystal from an orc spellcaster he slew; the evil energy was so powerful that it mangled his right hand. Locking it in a chest, Mograine revealed it to his friends Tirion Fordring, Abbendis, Isillien, Doan and Fairbanks during a meeting in Southshore, believing it could be used to combat the Scourge, whose intended invasion was nothing more than a rumor at that period. Though the others lashed out with holy energy to try to destroy it, the crystal absorbed the energy, changing its color and aura from an evil deep purple to a softly glowing reddish-orange. When Mograine touched the crystal, the holy energy healed his hand. This crystal became the basis for the creation of the Ashbringer - a powerful weapon to combat the undead. Mograine gave a portion of his soul to the creation of the blade, and thus he too was known as Ashbringer. After the fall of Lordaeron, Mograine, Abbendis and Isillien founded the Scarlet Crusade, and many former paladins and soldiers of Lordaeron joined their order to combat the Scourge. Legend has it that the first suit of Dreadnaught's Battlegear was created for him, giving him the appearance of a demon as he went into battle with the Scourge, Ashbringer held high, and leaving only the ashes of his enemies in his wake. This powerful weapon and the pious man who wielded it gained the attention of Kel'Thuzad, the lich overlord of the Plaguelands. Seeking to usurp Mograine, Grand Crusader Saiden Dathrohan struck a deal with Kel'Thuzad to kill the Highlord. Mograine was led into the ruins of Stratholme along with his chief advisor Fairbanks and his son Renault, where they were ambushed by a thousand Scourge. Mograine destroyed them all, but the battle left him weakened - enough for his son to pick up his father's blade and run it through his heart. The blade and the wielder became corrupted, and enslaved to the will of Kel'Thuzad - trapped deep inside his vile fortress of Naxxramas. After completing the instance Durnholde Keep, players can venture to the Alliance inn in Hillsbrad Foothills and see the making of the legendary sword, Ashbringer. *Appears in World of Warcraft Muradin Bronzebeard Muradin Bronzebeard was Prince Arthas' dwarven friend and head of an archaeological expedition to Northrend. He was killed when Arthas claimed Frostmourne, shattering its case and causing an ice fragment to strike Muradin. Muradin was the younger brother of King Magni Bronzebeard, the supreme ruler of the dwarves, and older brother to Brann, a renowned dwarven explorer. Muradin was widely respected by Humans, Elves and especially the Dwarves and lived to the age of 221. Muradin was the former Ambassador of Khaz Modan and the head of The Dwarven Archeological Society. Muradin was a noble, yet ferocious warrior and respected all forms of good in the world. Muradin always relied on the Light and did what he believed to be right. He was a hero to all the mortal people of Azeroth. His dwarves, led by Baelgun, survived to fight Arthas in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, but were defeated. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Naisha Naisha was a Night Elf Huntress who was Maiev Shadowsong's lieutenant and second in command of the Watchers. She followed Maiev as they tracked down the Betrayer, Illidan Stormrage, and came across the Naga plundering villages in Azshara. They followed the Naga to the Port of Nendis and pursued them as they sailed east, eventually disembarking on the ruins of Suramar, an ancient Elven city that was buried under the waves when the Well of Eternity collapsed. The Watchers continued their chase and tracked Illidan down all the way to the Tomb of Sargeras, where Illidan was attempting to harness the powers of the Eye of Sargeras to destroy the Lich King. However, upon clashing with the Watchers, Illidan used the Eye's power to collapse the entire tomb, aiding his escape and attempting to kill the elves. Maiev, with her blink ability, was the only survivor of the cave-in. Naisha, together with the rest of the expedition into the tomb, were buried alive. * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Nefarian The son of Deathwing the Destroyer (Once known as ) and brother of . Nefarian is a massive Black Dragon of incredible power. This maleficent leviathan dwells within Blackrock Spire near the summit of the mountain. Upon his arrival at the Spire, he entered into an alliance with , delusional "leader" of the remaining orcs on Azeroth. Nefarian is locked in combat with the Dark Iron Dwarves and their fiery master, , for control of the mountain fortress. To facilitate his victory, Nefarian conducts vile experiments within the Spire, combining the essences of the five flights to create his Chromatic Dragonflight, a horrid nightmare of magic and genetics. His personal abode of Blackwing Lair sits atop Blackrock Mountain in the desolated Burning Steppes. Nefarian assumes the guise of Lord Victor Nefarius, a human dignitary, to meddle in the affairs of humans, as most Black Dragons enjoy doing. * Appears in World of Warcraft Nekros Skullcrusher (Senior) Nekros Skullcrusher was one of the few Orcish warlocks who were not part of the Shadow Council. Nekros Skullcrusher never cared for his dark, magical calling. He considered himself more a warrior than a wizard, but his duty to his clan, and himself, demanded that he saddle his burden, especially when a human knight deprived him of half a leg. Nekros, being of the Dragonmaw Clan, was commissioned by his chieftain, Zuluhed, to bear the dark artifact known as the Demon Soul, which he would use to capture and contain Alexstrasza, the mighty Dragonqueen. They did just that, and Nekros became her warden in Grim Batol, using the Demon Soul to inflict unimaginable pain on her whenever she did not cooperate. When she chose to starve herself, he shattered an egg before her. Nekros continually abused her, both mentally and physically, especially after the Second War, when she became the only real weapon the Horde had against the Alliance. Her mates, however, were dying, and Nekros would soon have no further means of producing her children. Nekros was tricked by Deathwing into moving Alexstrasza into the open, where she was freed by her lover Korialstrasz, and the first thing she did was dispose of Nekros, burning him to cinders. His son Nek'rosh survived the massacre. * Appears in Warcraft: Day of the Dragon Nek'rosh Skullcrusher After the Second War, the Dragonmaw Clan is not the same threat they were when they had dragons, but they're still fierce opponents. The Dragonmaws are now led by Chieftain Nek'rosh, son of Nekros Skullcrusher, who was one of the top liutenants of the Dragonmaws years ago. Nekros used powerful magic to tame the Red Dragons, but when that magic failed him, Nekros was killed by the dragons and his son has vowed revenge against the dragons who slew his father. The dragons were not very happy with their old masters, and fiercely hunted the Dragonmaws. What few remained fled from Grim Batol and into the Mountains east of Whelgar's Excavation. Now they've gained strength, and have an encampment northeast of Menethil. Nek'rosh has built catapults and aims to lay siege to Menethil. And with the fighting in Dun Algaz, they would be effectively blocked from reinforcements. Neltharion (Deathwing) Neltharion the Earth Warder was one of the Five Dragon Aspects created to defend Kalimdor. After the creation of the Dragon Soul (soon after renamed "Demon Soul") he betrayed the other Aspects, and became the dragon Deathwing. He is the sworn enemy to , the leader of the Red Dragons and , the Leader of the Green Dragons. For a while, he became the ally of and offered his black dragonflight to serve him. He was in command of the Black Dragonflight until he disappeared. The remnants of the Black Dragonflight are lead by his heir, . In Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, Deathwing had armored plates fused to his already strong scales by goblin alchemists, making him even more resistant to damage. * Appears in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal * Appears in Warcraft: Day of the Dragon * Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy Ner'zhul (Lich King) Ner'zhul was the mentor of and a powerful Shaman who made a pact with (and was corrupted by) . Due to his failure in establishing a grand invasion of Azeroth, and for opening various portals to other worlds, he was punished by being encased in the Frozen Throne. He became the Lich King and was ordered to create the Scourge and lead a second invasion into Azeroth. He became too powerful for Kil'Jaeden to control. Arthas traveled to Northrend and shattered the frozen throne, donning the armor of Ner'zhul, and fused with him to become arguably the most powerful being the world has ever known. * Appears in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Nilas Arcanister An Archmage of Dalaran who dwelled in the Quel'Thalassian Capital of Silvermoon. When the Undead Scourge laid siege to the city, Arcanister resisted in every way possible. Seeing that the battle was ending and that his comrades were far outnumbered, Arcanister fled with a handful of survivors to Dalaran in order to warn the Kirin Tor. When Arthas and made their inevitable journey to Dalaran, the Mages were more than ready for them. The Mages had constructed a shield-type spell that drained the evil energy of the Undead Scourge and for a time the Undead were unable to attack the city. However, this spell had to be maintained by 3 Archmages, and Arcanister was one of them. Arcanister guarded the Gates of Dalaran and maintained the shield and held off the Scourge for a brief period. However, the Undead used devious tactics to combat the Wizards and humans of Dalaran though Arthas was eventually able to kill the Archmage. The other two mages resisted for a period but were also murdered by the teeming Undead Armies. With their deaths came the loss of Dalaran. Arcanister was a prolific and benevolent Mage who is remembered as a hero of the Human Alliance. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Nozdormu Nozdormu is one of the five Dragon Aspects and is the Aspect guarding Time. He is called the Timeless One and is the head of the Bronze Dragonflight chosen by the Titan Pantheon to watch over the World of Azeroth. He was empowered to police time itself, and so he became "Master of the spinning roads of fate" and known as the Timeless One. His Prime Consort is . * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: Day of the Dragon * Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy * Appears in World of Warcraft Orgrim Doomhammer Orgrim Doomhammer was the former Warchief of the Horde after Blackhand was overthrown. He was the one responsible for seizing power from Blackhand and slaughtering the Shadow Council. He was also a friend of Durotan. He fell in combat and was succeeded by Thrall who took up the legendary Warhammer that bore his name. The Horde capital city of Orgrimmar is named in honor of this orcish hero. * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: Lord of the Clans * Appears in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness Scarlet Commander Renault Mograine Renault Mograine is the son of the Highlord Mograine. When he was approximately fifteen years old, Grand Crusader Dathrohan promised him greater power in the new Scarlet Crusade if he could lead his father into Kel'Thuzad's trap. When it became clear the Ashbringer would defeat the Scourge, Renault ran and hid, waiting for the opportunity to strike. Mograine became weakened by his battle, and open to the betrayal that was to come. Renault picked up Ashbringer and ran it through his father's heart, forever corrupting the blade and the man wielding it. Today, Renault is the Commander of the Scarlet Monastery, second only to High Inquisitor Whitemane. *Appears in World of Warcraft Ragnaros Ragnaros the Firelord is an incredibly powerful Elemental Lord, and master of all fire elementals. He rules over his minions from deep inside the fiery core of Blackrock Mountain. Ragnaros originally was a servant of the terrible Old Gods, and in the early days of Azeroth he and his brethren helped them to rule over the planet with an iron fist. When the Titans came to Azeroth and defeated the Old Gods, he, along with the other Elemental Lords (Al'Akir, Therazane, and Neptulon), was imprisoned within their respective elemental planes. Thousands of years later, the Dark Iron Dwarves and their leader, the Emperor Thaurissan, sought a supernatural minion that could help them take revenge on their cousins, the Bronzebeard and Wildhammer Dwarves, who had driven them south. As such, Thaurissan summoned the sleeping ancient powers. Ragnaros erupted into being again, creating a massive explosion which created the Blackrock Mountain volcano and the Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge which surround it. Though Thaurissan was killed, the rest of the Dark Iron clan survived. They were enslaved by Ragnaros, and now, forever after, toil away within the underworks of Blackrock Mountain; the Blackrock Depths, in servitude to him. Ragnaros has his mind set upon wrenching control of the upper half of the mountain, Blackrock Spire, from the black dragon Nefarian, and eventually taking over the entire world. As such, within the Blackrock Depths, and in the Searing Gorge which Ragnaros also controls, the Dark Irons are working constantly to create him an army of golems; to aid his personal forces of fire elementals. Ragnaros himself now dwells at the heart of Blackrock Mountain; the Molten Core. Rend and Maim Rend and Maim were the sons of Blackhand, who continued to lead the Blackrock clan after their father's demise. They branched off into the Black Tooth Grin clan, wherein each member knocked out one of their own teeth as a show of loyalty and strength. They were at the final battle for the Portal at the end of the Second War. But with Doomhammer defeated and the Alliance troops rallying under Turalyon, they staged a retreat into Blackrock Spire, and holed themselves up within. This began a war with the current residents - the Dark Iron Dwarves. The war raged for years within the mountain, with little ground gained on either side. Maim eventually died in the course of the war, leaving Rend to proclaim himself Warchief. He was soon visited by Nefarian and his black dragons, and with their help, drove the Dark Iron dwarves back into the depths, leaving the Spire to them. He sits there still, loyal to Nefarian but also building up his own, dark Horde to oppose Thrall. The mountain remains contested between Nefarian's forces controlling the spires, the Dark Iron Dwarves holding the depths, and the armies of Ragnaros fortified in the Molten Core. Rend and Maim also appear in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne in Lord of Outland, Chapter Six of the Alliance Campaign. There, they are Blademasters guarding Magtheridon's Black Citadel, and are slain by the combined forces of Illidan Stormrage, Prince Kael'Thas, Lady Vashj, and the Draenei Akama. The Rend and Maim here have no connection whatsoever with the Rend and Maim described above. *Appears in World of Warcraft (Rend only) *Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne *Appears in Warcraft II Rexxar A half-orc, half-ogre Beastmaster/Hunter who was instrumental in assisting Thrall and the Horde in defending the fledgling nation Durotar after the fall of the Burning Legion. His lineage is known as the "Mok'nathal", and he is rumored to be one of the last of them. He travels the land as an "outcast" with his animal companions. In World of Warcraft, he and his bear, Misha, patrol along a road in Desolace between Feralas and The Charred Vale in west-central Kalimdor. Rexxar also appears in Outland at Thunderlord's Fortress in the Blade's Edge Mountains. In Outland, Rexxar continues his tale by sharing that he had an argument with his father Leoroxx at the Mok'Nathal Village. The argument leads Rexxar to travel to Azeroth and eventually meet up with the Horde. This implies that Rexxar is an "outcast" and is "lost" in the eyes of his own father, and possibly hints of a reunion between Father and Son. * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne * Appears in World of Warcraft * Appears in World of Warcraft - The Burning Crusade * Appears in the novelization Cycle of Hatred Rhonin Rhonin is a powerful human mage of the Kirin Tor, and the hero who saved Alexstrasza the Dragon Queen. By destroying the Demon Soul and restoring the other Aspects to their original power. Also played a role in stopping the first invasion by the Burning Legion after being transported back in time, thousands of years before the Orcs invaded Azeroth. Husband of Vereesa Windrunner and father to their twins. * Appears in the novel Warcraft: Day of the Dragon * Appears in the Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy. Sapphiron A blue dragon who was killed by Arthas and Anub-arak as the pair made their way towards the underground caverns of Northrend. Sapphiron was later resurrected as a frost wyrm and, under the control of Arthas, helped him clear the entrance of the caverns by killing the guard dwarves. He was left behind together with the other flying undead creeps to guard the entrance because the caverns were too small for flight. He is currently tasked with protecting 's inner chamber within the necropolis Naxxramas, serving as the penultimate boss before the showdown with the lich himself. Sargeras Sargeras, a bronze-skinned Vanir Titan, used to be the champion of the Pantheon. Once he was sent to deal with several demonic races. He managed to defeat them and imprison them. But due to the corruption the demons had caused to all he and the other titans had made, he became saddened. Eventually he decided the only way to end corruption and missery was to destroy all life. He then released the demons from their prisons, which included the Nathrezim and Pit Lords, who were quick to ally with the Dark Titan, bowing before his vast power. The Burning Legion is then created. Sargeras then began invading worlds and scourging them of life with the aid of his Burning Legion. His mortal avatar appeared before, and was killed by, the Guardian Aegwynn, but not before possessing her then her son Medivh upon his consumation. His spirit lay dormant within the young man for many years, corrupting him with subtle manipulations that culminated in the opening of the Dark Portal which brought the Orcs into Azeroth. Eventually, Medivh was killed and Sargeras' spirit was exorcised by the mage Khadgar, the Knight Anduin Lothar (trainer of Uther the Lightbringer, founder of the Paladins of the Silver Hand) and the half-Orc Garona. What is left of the Dark Titan is currently in the Twisting Nether, completely incapable of doing anything, due to his lack of a physical form. The last remainder of his power that existed out of the Twisting Nether was the arctifact known as The Eye of Sargaras which was destroyed by Furion and Tyrande while Illidan was trying to use it to destroy the Lich King in Northrend. If he were able to once more make himself physically manifest, coped with the lack of a Guardian, he would arguably be the most powerful being in the Warcraft universe. His apperance as a titan was said to be a huge giant made of molten, flowing, gold or bronze. After his corruption great tears apeared in his body revealing the eternal fire within him. He is last seen in WarCraft 3: Frozen Throne as a shadow taunting the orc necromancer Gul'Dan durring his search for the Eye. * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: The Last Guardian. * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy * Appears in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Saridormi She is the Prime Mate of the Aspect of Time. Ten thousand years ago, Saridormi represented Nozdormu at the gathering of dragons in the Chamber of the Aspects for the creation of the Dragon Soul because Nozdormu wasn't there. She contributed her own and Nozdormu's essence to the Soul's spell matrix. Nozdormu's essence was in an hourglass. Soridormi was betrayed along with the rest of the dragons when attempted to use the Dragon Soul to gain control of the Flights, but was saved by the intervention of . Saridormi later fought in the final battle against the Burning Legion above the Well of Eternity, again representing the Bronze Dragonflight. She was the mount for . She was reunited with Nozdormu. * Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy * Appears in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Sen'jin Sen'jin, a witch doctor and chieftain of the Darkspear Tribe, was in a conflict with a sea witch's minions when he met Thrall. The conflict's main goal was to free his people from their fear and servitude to the sea witch. When he and his tribe attempted to flee the isles with the orcish fleet, he was killed by invading humans and murlocs. With his last words, he swore his tribe to follow the leadership of Thrall. His son Vol'Jin now rules the Darkspear Tribe. * Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos" * Appears in Warcraft III Shandris Feathermoon Shandris Feathermoon was orphaned in the first war against the Burning Legion, and was taken care of by . One of his pupils, a fair-looking young woman, drove him mad with love. When she unexpectedly chose a suitor after all of her "come-ons" to Stalvan, he went mad with jealousy and grief. Saying "that's just my tutor, old uncle Stalvan" didn't help things either, as she was only a few years younger than him. He proceeded in murdering her, her young suitor, and many other nobles in his blind rage. He wandered, blind with rage - eventually contracting the plague of undeath. He lives in a shack in northeastern Duskwood. World of Warcraft players can opt to pursue a quest line that results in his death (again). *Appears in World of Warcraft Sylvanas Windrunner Former Ranger General of Quel'Thalas, Sylvanas was brought to the brink of death by the Deathknight Arthas, who then cursed her in her final moments to eternal life as a banshee. Tagar Spinebreaker garbs himself in the innards of his enemies; those which he does not devour himself. Tagar is ruthless and bloodthirsty, craving only the heat of battle above all else. The Bonechewers stayed in Draenor during the First Crossing, but when the Second Crossing was imminent, the Bonechewers were attacked by the Shadow Moon Clan, for one of their captains possessed the Skull of Gul’dan as a trophy. Their camp was obliterated and the skull reclaimed. Soon after, Tagar, along with Fenris of the Thunderlords, decided to sojourn into Azeroth, rising to the challenge and succeeding where their predecessors failed. Ner’zhul refused their suggestions, and their Clans were slaughtered. * Appears in World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Taretha Foxton Taretha Foxton was a childhood friend of Thrall the Orc Warchief, in the novelization Lord of the Clans. When Thrall was a baby, Taretha's mother was given the duty of nursing and caring for him until he was old enough to be trained. Taretha looked on him as a little baby brother, and while Thrall was training, Taretha was given the duty of carrying books on strategy and military history to Thrall's cell. She used the opportunity to converse with him through letters hidden in the pages of the books, and would also give him additional books on subjects such as Art. When Thrall decided to escape from Durnholde, Taretha arranged for a distraction to allow him to escape, and even gathered supplies for him. Taretha died after the man who took her as his mistress, General Aedelas Blackmoore, ordered her execution for helping Thrall, in an attempt to break his will. Thrall, who was instead enraged by her death, avenged Taretha, killing Blackmoore during the siege of Durnholde, and razing the keep to the ground. Taretha's love and compassion was a powerful influence on the young Warchief, and is often credited with leading him into his friendship with Jaina Proudmoore in the Third War and afterwards. *Appears in the novelization: Warcraft: Lord of the Clans/ *Appears in World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Terokk According to legend, Terokk is the god of the Akkora, a race of bird-men who reside primarily in Terokkar Forest - believed to be named for him. Terokk was once a revered hero of the arakkoa, and is said to have built their capital city of Skettis with his own claws. He ruled the arakkoa of Skettis for hundreds of years, until one day he mysteriously disappeared, leaving only his spear, his mask, and his writings. He is now seen as evil, denounced as a false prophet by a faction of arakkoa renegades led by Rilak the Redeemed. They are of the belief that Terokk's actions - including the corruption of avians at Veil Lithic and the resurrection of the denizens of Veil Rhaze, destroyed when Auchindoun was annihilated - will damn the arakkoa race for all eternity. Talon King Ikiss, leader of the Sethekk clan that has set up shop in Auchindoun, has declared himself Terokk reborn, and has stolen the Relics of Terokk for his own corruptive use. *Appears in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Teron Gorefiend Teron Gorefiend was an Orc warlock and member of the Shadow Council until he was killed by Orgrim Doomhammer and later reincarnated in the body of a knight of Azeroth as one of Gul'dan's Death Knights. Following the defeat of the Horde in the Second War, Gorefiend took control of the surviving Death Knights who had remained on Azeroth (some others had already established on Draenor before the destruction of the Dark Portal). Gorefiend aligned himself with Ner'zhul hoping to use one of his portals to invade a world for the Death Knights alone to conquer. He is the son of , successor to Orgrim Doomhammer whom the capital of Durotar, Orgrimmar is named for. Visionary leader, Farseer, and Warchief of the Orcish Horde, he is credited with founding the nation of Durotar in East Kalimdor and also allying the mighty Tauren by aiding in saving his village from Centaur attacks. He was appointed the task of personally guarding the Lich King. He was a powerful warrior and was extremely loyal to Kil'Jaeden despite his misgivings about the Lich King. When Arthas was turned into a Death Knight, Tichondrius remained his superior until Arthas and Kel'Thuzad broke away entirely from the Burning Legion. He was slain by after Illidan consumed the energies of the skull of . *Appears in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Tirion Fordring Tirion was a Paladin of the Silver Hand who was at one time named the Master of Hearthglen. Unlike many strong-headed warriors of Lordaeron, Tirion did not view Orcs and other creatures as inherently evil and preferred to judge everyone by their actions and not their birthright. When he showed compassion to an exiled orc hermit and consequently saved him from execution, Tirion was ejected from the Silver Hand and, supposedly, had his powers stripped. However, while escaping from Stratholme with the wounded orc, Eitrigg, Tirion found his powerful abilities blessed by the Holy Light had not faded, and he was able to heal Eitrigg's grievous wounds and save him. After living in exile for many years, Tirion Fordring's past caught up with him in the form of his son Taelan who had also been inducted into the Silver Hand, but succumbed to the zealous call of the Scarlet Crusade, becoming its Highlord and donating the Fordring family lands, primarily consisting of Hearthglen, where he is currently stationed. After years of separation, Father and Son were nearly destined to meet but Grand Inquisitor Isillien of the Scarlet Crusade murdered Taelan before the two could reconcile, throwing Tirion into a rage which ended in the death of the High Inquisitor and his guards. The quest series is generally accepted as one of the most touching and well-written in the game, and has led to the popularisation of Tirion. Today Tirion still lives in isolation in the northwest corner of the Eastern Plaguelands. Tyranastrasz was an old dragon before he was captured, described as hundreds of years older than Alexstrasza, and the constant strain of his captivity affected him. He faced Nefarian in his lair, The Blackwing Lair, and was wounded severely during the battle. Nefarian used his own blood in an arcane ritual to corrupt the younger Red Dragon. Nefarian then used Vaelstrasz against the heroes who came to kill him. Varimathras Varimathras is likely second in command of The Forsaken. He is a Dreadlord, a race of demons from The Twisting Nether used as commanders for the invasions of the Burning Legion. With the fall of the Legion at the Battle of Mt. Hyjal, he and several of his brothers were abandoned in the Plaguelands at the Ruins of Lordaeron. They had no news of the defeat of the Legion, and continued to rule over the undead stationed there while waiting for further instructions from the Defiler. Their fortifications were assaulted during the Undead Civil War by the forces of the Forsaken and their leader , and Varimathras was captured by the Dark Lady. Out of cowardice, he swore fealty to her in order to preserve his own life and assisted her in the destruction of the Dreadlords and . He personally was attacked and was forced to have killed his brother Balnazzar, leader of the Plaguelands' Legion forces. Since then he has assisted Sylvanas in her rise to power as ruler of the Forsaken, and aids with her from the Undercity. Intrigued by the art of magic, he worked his way through the Highborne with such dedication that he gave up his own eyes for magical orbs allowing him to understand his art better. He led the creation of the portal that would allow to venture into Kalimdor. He captured 's spirit form, who later escaped and killed Xavius. His spirit was captured by Sargeras, who tortured him and then resurrected him as the first Satyr, and sent him into the world to fill the ranks of the Legion. Later in the War of the Ancients, Malfurion, in a desperate bid to save Tyrande from the clutches of the Legion, kills Xavius for the second (and more permanent) time by turning him into a tree. *Appears in the novelization War of the Ancients: The Well of Eternity *Appears in the novelization War of the Ancients: The Demon Soul Ysera Ysera the Dreamer is one of the five Dragon Aspects that watch over the world of Azeroth. The green dragon is the younger sister to and empowered by the titan to be bound to the Emerald Dream in an eternal trance to forever watch over the wilds and the druids in the Emerald Dream. In any form, Ysera is almost always seen with her eyes closed as she is both in the mortal world and the Emerald Dream. It was believed that there is a connection between Ysera and Elune, as it has been said separately that both are the mother of Cenarius. However, it has been released that Ysera and Elune are not the same. While Elune did birth Cenarius, she saw that he was not of her realm and gave him to Ysera, who raised him. Ysera became furious when killed Malorne and severely wounded . The Emerald Dream, a vast, ever-changing spirit world, existed outside the boundaries of the physical world. From the Dream, Ysera regulated the ebb and flow of nature and the evolutionary path of the world itself. Ysera rules the Emerald Dream from the "Eye of Ysera," a golden dome which has no fixed point within the realm appearing wherever Ysera wishes it to. To enter the Emerald Dream unbidden or destroy life there is to earn Ysera's and her brood's unending wrath. * Appears in Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy * Appears in the novelization Warcraft: Day of the Dragon Zuluhed the Whacked Zuluhed the Whacked was a powerful orc shaman and Leader of the Dragonmaw clan. They fought in Azeroth during the First and Second Wars. The Dragonmaw was one of the strongest supporters of Blackhand, and after his death, they pledged themselves into the service of the Black Tooth Grin Clan. Its leaders, Rend and Maim, handed Zuluhed the Demon Soul, and ordered him to use it to capture the dragonqueen Alexstrasza. But his shamanistic magics weren't powerful enough to tap into the artifact, and so Zuluhed used the warlock skills of his warrior Nekros Skullcrusher in order to tame and capture the dragonqueen. This provided a valuable aid to the orcs, as her dragons were used to wreak havoc among the humans. Zuluhed trusted Nekros with the Demon Soul, and commanded the orc operations in the captured Khaz Modan during the Second War. After the Horde was defeated, the Dragonmaw was one of the few clans still standing. While Zuluhed was fighting the human attacks near Dun Algaz, a strike force led by Rhonin attacked Grim Batol and freed the dragonqueen. After the loss of their greatest asset, the clan began to lose ground, and was eventually defeated and captured by the Alliance.
