List of Storm Hawks locations
|
This is a list of locations in the Cartoon Network animated television series Storm Hawks. The setting of Storm Hawks is Atmos. Atmos consists of thousands of scattered mountains known as terras. As such, most of the colonized land is above the cloud line. The various terras usually have "Terra" prefixed to their name. Below the cloud line is the wastelands, essentially the Atmos equivalent of sea level. Terra means "Earth" in Latin. In the episode 'Stratosphere', it is revealed that the known parts of Atmos are surrounded by incredibly high mountain ranges known as 'The Barrier Cliffs', preventing the lands beyond them from being explored. Terras Amazonia Terra Amazonia is a terra that is covered with rain forests. According to Piper, it is a remote terra. It's also said that the trees of Amazonia grow back 2 months after being chopped down. Aquanos Terra Aquanos is the home of the Neck Deeps squadron. The native inhabitants of the terra are intelligent half-man/half-fish humanoids. Atmosia Terra Atmosia is the home terra of the Sky Knight council, as well as the beacon tower containing the Aurora Stone. It is guarded by the Red Eagles, until their leader attacked his crew. Blizzaris Terra Blizzaris is a snowy terra home to the Absolute Zeroes. Based on Repton's comments in "Fire and Ice", the name Blizzaris isn't applied to one specific terra, but rather the current and appropriately terraformed home of the Blizzarians. The first (or previous) one was apparently conquered by the Cyclonians, after which the Blizzarians simply moved to another uninhabited terra and froze it over using a blizzard crystal. Bluster Terra Bluster is a terra conquered by Cyclonia and ruled by Ravess. Bogaton Terra Bogaton is the home terra of the Raptors. Bogaton sports the best aerial defense system in Atmos: a network of energy cannons scattered about the terra detect anything that goes above the treeline and shoot it down with deadly accuracy (even targets as small as a common fly). Because of this, ground travel is a necessity within its borders. The system does not discriminate from friend and foe, so the Raptors themselves are forced into ground travel as well. Their vehicles, however, are designed to operate efficiently on the rough terrain, so they still have the advantage. The energy cannons were taken out by the Storm Hawks in the episode "Absolute Power". Cyclonia Cyclonia (usually referred to without the "Terra" prefix) is the home terra of Master Cyclonis' empire. It dwarfs every other terra in Atmos, due in part to the large number of secondary peaks surrounding it. Fitting with the ever-expanding Cyclonian empire, Cyclonia itself is much more industrialized than is standard for terras, its operations extending well into the wastelands below it. Cyclonia is a highly militarized terra, for they are known for the massive Talon armies that conquer whole terras. The terra's sky never is blue; it is always stormy with a blood-red hue. Deep Obscured by thick clouds, Terra Deep is filled with craggy rocks, impossibly deep caverns, and no solid ground to speak of. Because of its geographical features, Terra Deep doesn't show up on any current maps; the one Stork retrieves marking it is over 200 years old. The Murk Raiders, a band of vicious pirates, make Deep their home, raiding ships and leaving their wreckage strewn about the landscape. Due to the dense clouds, the atmospheric pressure increases as a ship descends until it is eventually crushed. Edmontonia Engineers from Edmontonia (its name resembling the Canadian city Edmonton, Alberta) co-developed the Ice Grinder with engineers from Terra Blizzaris. Gale Terra Gale is the home of the Rebel Ducks. This terra was enslaved by the Cyclonians years ago and used as one of the many factories to produce Cyclonian equipment. The Storm Hawks help to free the enslaved Rebel Ducks during a scouting mission. All the inhabitants of Terra Gale have French accents. The most prized possession of Gale is called the cheese stone. This crystal can turn an aimed object into cheese. Glockenchime Terra Glockenchime is home to the Timepulse, the central navigation system for every airship in Atmos. Essentially a massive clocktower, Glockenchime is staffed by Time Keepers, who maintain the system. However they don't have a sky knight squadron, leaving them defenceless. In "Tranquility Now" they were held hostage by Ravess and Snipe which caused the timepulse to stop, and caused major confusion in the entire Atmos. But they were saved by the Storm Hawks. The timekeepers are led by Steward and speak in stereotypical German accents. Greemus Terra Greemus is where the Heliscooter was invented. They were also one of the last terras to take to the skies of Atmos. Klockstoppia Terra Klockstoppia is a medieval terra, and is the home of Princess Peregrine. A little old fashioned, crystals are forbidden and are kept in a cave. Thus, the technology is primitive (for example, the toasters there are powered by hamsters). There is a regent who controls the affairs of the state, and the princess' role is symbolic. In "Royal Twist", the terra is attacked by the Nightcrawlers, who try to steal the crystals. Merb Terra Merb is Stork's home terra, a land mass frequently hit with a variety of natural disasters, leading its Merb population to adopt an extremely cautious outlook on life. Mesa Terra Mesa was the former home of the Interceptors squadron, which Starling was a member of. Neon Terra Neon is a terra famous for its carnival and the 24-hour gravy buffets. It is located in the southwest. Home to a massive terra-wide carnival, Terra Neon always brings in the big crowds. It had appearances in "Terra Neon" where the Storm Hawks stumbled upon The Producers who took all of Terra Neon's citizens in hostage; and in "The Lesson" where Ayrgyn trained the Storm Hawks against a huge Cyclonian attack. It will also be a part of the episode, "Radarr Love". Nimbus Terra Nimbus is a terra conquered by Cyclonia and ruled by Snipe. 'Nimbus' is Latin for 'cloud', which may be a clue as to its terrain. Nord Terra Nord is mentioned in passing near the end of "Fire and Ice", where Piper notes that the Sky Knights of the terra would be willing to house the Blizzarians until their own terra is freed. While it's apparently cold enough to be a suitable home for the Blizzarians, Billy Rex, a member of the Absolute Zeroes squadron called the people inhabiting it "hosers", complaining that they didn't know how to rock. Ray Terra Ray is a terra characterized by lots of sunny weather. Aerrow suggested taking a trip there after surviving the Black Gorge. Rex Terra Rex was where the Sky Knights originated, though the governing body of the Sky Knights has since moved to . Terra Rex is home to the Rex Guardians. Among its features are a large, outdoor dueling arena for challenges and spacious dining halls for guests. The Rex Guardians--and, most likely, the rest of the terra's inhabitants--speak with a posh British accent. Rex is Latin for King, which is appropriate considering the status the squadron has. Saharr Terra Saharr (its appearance and name a reference to the Sahara desert) is a large, desert-like terra. In the episode "Velocity", the local squadron, the Third Degree Burners, sponsored the Great Atmos Race, a land race across the surface of the terra for a Velocity Amulet. The original Storm Hawks were consistently victorious in this race, but by the beginning of the series it hasn't been held for ten years. The new Storm Hawks are technically victorious when it is revived, but this is due in part to the Dark Ace cheating during the race. Aerrow also shatters the amulet after the Cyclonian attack is repelled so each squad can take a piece home, declaring everyone winners for their combined effort in defeating the Talons. Besides the race, Terra Saharr also serves as a sort of trading post, where lots of people (including Cyclonians) come to acquire rare and valuable items from the local merchants. Tasty Mentioned by Finn in Ep 32 "What got into finn?", Terra Tasty seems to be a terra that produces candy slugs and other tasty things. Toledos Terra Toledos is briefly mentioned at the end of the episode "Terra Neon", though the details are not elaborated upon. Tranqua A peaceful and undefended Terra, Snipe was planning to launch an invasion of Terra Tranqua using kids recruited by the Talon Academy using Cyclonian propaganda. Tropica Tropica (also referred to without the "Terra" prefix) is located in the southwest. As the name and descriptions of it suggest, Tropica would seem to be a tropical paradise with surfing and swimming. Tundras Terra Tundras has two of the three most productive crystal mines in Atmos, both of which the Cyclonians control. Vapos Terra Vapos is a long-lost terra (thought to be a myth by the rest of Atmos) home to a society modeled after ancient Greece. Vapos was lost when a massive earthquake split the ground beneath it, releasing an army of humanoid bats that picked the town clean. Years later, the Storm Hawks inadvertently crash on Vapos, and Finn is proclaimed as their prophesied hero, the great Domo. In order to prove it, they point out a small ring hung from a branch on an unclimbable cliff, which the hero will be able to retrieve. This is no problem for Finn; he just shoots it down and catches it. Finn is depicted almost exactly on a mural near the city center, hence their belief that he is the hero. However, Finn was supposed to save the terra, by getting eaten by the bats. With Aerrow's help, Finn is able to seal the bats back underground, allowing Vapos to recover its prosperity. The people of Vapos are magically linked to the terra, and no object from its surface can leave without vaporizing. However, the objects are not destroyed when this happens, but simply reappear on Vapos after a short period. Wallop Junko's home terra, where the Wallops live. The terra is comprised of several peaks, each shaped rather like a fist. Also where Junko had to go to get a tooth pulled. Dentists there are not like others; they are not very gentle. Xerxxes In the episode "Velocity", the Dark Ace disguised himself as a sky knight from Terra Xerxxes in order to infiltrate the Great Race at Terra Saharr. That the ruse was successful suggests the terra likely exists, but no other mention of it has been made. Xoam An ancient jungle-covered terra, Xoam is home to the mysterious and spooky underground ruins of the Forbidden City. There is an architectural model of the city within. The original builders of the Forbidden City believed in tricks and hoaxes, so it is full of dangerous booby traps. The only way to survive is to remember that first impressions are always wrong, and nothing is what it seems. Zartacla Terra Zartacla (Alcatraz backwards) is a swampy, forested terra where a Cyclonian high-security prison is located. The head warden, , leads the hunt for Aerrow and Radarr when they break out of the prison. The staff of the prison is comparatively small, mostly consisting of Mr. Moss, the Talon guards, and the local animal handler, Hamish. To compensate, Moss makes sure that the only place prisoners can break out to is the Terra's natural swamplands. Other The Black Gorge The Black Gorge is a deep, sunlight-shielded canyon in an unidentified region of Atmos, clearly above the wastelands but not necessarily located on any specific terra. The Black Gorge generates a natural energy field that quickly drains crystals of their power, discouraging travel anywhere near it: even carriers quickly fall to the field. Within its darkened walls are fearsome creatures adapted to it: metal-eating vulka-bats, giant meat-eating plants, living tar, giant eels, and giant poison-toothed spiny gorge sloths. Sunlight only appears in one place in the Black Gorge, and only does so for a few seconds each year. Incidentally, the gorge sloths make this spot their home because they need sunlight to transform from cute animals to nasty creatures. One explorer was able to create a map of the gorge for anyone to survive or fall to a painful doom, before he succumbed to "Gorge Madness". The Great Expanse A seemingly infinite expanse of unstable terrain, the Great Expanse blocks the Timepulse navigational beacon and the sun is almost constantly up, preventing navigation through stellar markers. These effects are created by the illusion-casting Sky Sirens, who lure in ships to be destroyed by tempting the crews with their greatest desires. Polaris Pointe A small rock formation near Terra Amazonia, Polaris Pointe is not a terra in its own right. However, it is important due to the fact that traffic from multiple terras must travel past it to avoid powerful storms. Ravess had the Cyclonians build a massive sonic cannon on the terra. Unfortunately for them, the Storm Hawks managed to wreck the cannon, completely demolishing Polaris Pointe in the process. Skyside Shanty A rundown shack by Terra Aquinos, and the preferred watering hole for the sky fishers that work the nearby cloud seas, the Skyside Shanty is famous for their Skyside Shanty's Signature Extra-Potent Quadruple Malt Vinegar, particularly when it's paired with the Skyfood Combo Platter, a giant plate of deep-fried everything. This vinegar is the only known thing that keeps the Leviathan at bay, as the monster appears to have a distaste for the extremely potent vinegar. The Wayside The Wayside is one of many rest stops and greasy spoons on the trade routes that run between the terras. The Wayside's specialty is Atmos-style home cooking. The Wastelands The Wastelands are the ground beneath the clouds of Atmos. The Wastelands are essentially one giant magma flow, with various craggy rock formations and geysers of lava resulting from the unstable terrain. The Wastelands are teeming with hostile creatures adapted to it. Among those seen are large, eel-like creatures that live in the lava. Finn also mentions "scorpion flies" and "elephant ants" as other residents. However, it appears that Wastelands may indeed have valuable natural resources, such as crystals, which would explain the Wallop miners in "The Last Stand". Frozen Yogurt Bar A terra that's found on the far side of Atmos that serves frozen yogurt. The Storm Hawks went there to grab some frozen yogurt to pay as a ransom for the release of Junko from The Colonel. Ship Dealer Terra A terra where the Storm Hawks unexpectedly went to buy a new but unreliable ship. The Barrier Cliffs Incredibly high mountain range that makes up the border of the known Atmos. One must be able to exceed stratospheric altitudes to even see over them. Terra of Giant Bananas A terra that Radarr wanted to go to during the Terra Neon episode (though he sadly got outvoted). Its name implies that giant fruit grows there. The Condor The Storm Hawks' carrier ship is a reliable, if somewhat dilapidated ship. Little is known about it, except that it is at least 117 years old and holds the current air speed record. It set the record in the past, under the command of the original Storm Hawks, and then its own record was beaten by the new Storm Hawks, after some extensive work done by The Colonel. Stork, in his infinite wisdom (paranoia), has set up several booby traps inside the Condor, including a large metal fist inside a air vent, an ejection floor in an area of the bridge, and many others.
