List of locations in Jak and Daxter

Throughout the course of Naughty Dog's fictional Jak and Daxter videogame series, there have been many locations mentioned or explored. They can primarily be divided into two categories: the old world, set at the time of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, and the new world, set at the time of Daxter onwards. Kate Berens and Geoff Howard have noted the "smooth shifts between locations".

The Old World

304 years ago, the world of Jak and Daxter was much more primitive. There were no large cities, only small villages. People lived simple, happier lives. The four sages governed the powers of the mysterious substance known as eco, and all anyone had to worry about was their jobs. However, that all changed when Gol and Maia, the Dark Sages, turned mad and tried to flood the world with deadly Dark Eco. A hero from 300 years in the future, Jak, and his best friend Daxter, managed to defeat Gol and Maia, but they discovered a mysterious Rift Gate soon afterwards. Vicious creatures called Metal Heads came into the world and they eventually destroyed the old world.

Sandover Village

The largest village seen in Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, and also the home of Samos, Keira, Jak and Daxter. Samos' hut sat on a plinth of rock high above the waves, and it even managed to survive through Jak II, albeit heavily damaged. The village was powered by an eco-powered windmill, which received eco from the nearby Forbidden Jungle. Other inhabitants of Sandover Village included the Sculptor, Ollie the Fisherman, Jak's Uncle, Tweetledov Perch, Mayor Manac, and Farmer Zeb. Sandover Village is also home to the Oracle.
Sandover Village in the future is Dead Town.

Geyser Rock

Geyser Rock was mostly uninhabited by living things, so Samos used it as a training ground, placing test dummies all over it. The eponymous geyser from which the island is named is colossal, and its jets of water can be seen from the coast of the mainland. Before journeying to find Gol (so Jak could transform Daxter back into a "human"), they are sent to Geyser Rock to get some practice adventuring.

Forbidden Jungle

This jungle was very dangerous and was considered off-limits by many. At the heart of the jungle was the Forbidden Temple, which was home to many secrets, including the deadly Dark Eco Plant. Ollie the Fisherman often came to the Forbidden Jungle to fish in the river that flowed through the area. A Blue Eco vent switch was located within the temple.

Misty Island

A large island to the far south, permanently covered in a thick layer of fog. A massive Dark Eco silo is located here, so the Lurkers maintained a strong presence here and even built a headquarters on the island. Samos strictly forbade Jak and Daxter from going to the island, but they failed to heed his advice, and it was where Daxter was transformed into an Ottsel after being knocked into a Dark Eco pool by Jak (in the prologue, Samos referred the duo's first visit to Misty Island as a "small act of disobedience"). Misty Island contains the first of the three Dark Eco Silos in the Old World (although compared to the others, this is extremely small).

Sentinel Beach

Stretching to the west of Sandover Village, this beach was dotted with ancient Precursor monuments called sentinels, which looked out over the sea. Samos had several Green Eco harvesters to the far west side of the beach, which collected Green Eco as it came forth from Green Eco Vents.

Fire Canyon

This canyon, connecting Sandover Village and Rock Village, was filled with lava so hot, it could even melt Precursor metal (although, there were some outcroppings of Precursor metal, used as platforms to reach certain items). The only way across was by A-Grav Zoomer, with a heat shield equipped. Usually, travelers between the villages chose the easier way and used teleporter gates. However, because the teleporters were in disuse by the time that the game starts, Jak and Daxter must traverse this canyon to reach the next location.

Rock Village

Rock Village is the second village in the Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. Klaww attacked the village with flaming rocks before he was defeated by Jak after collecting enough Power Cells. This is the second largest and only other village that Jak visits in the Old World. All of the dwellings there were built into the side of the sheer rock face in the center of the bay. Some of the inhabitants were the Geologist, the Gambler, the blue sage before he was captured, and the Warrior.

Precursor Basin

The Precursor Basin was home to various things. One of the most notable were the lightning moles. These animals were blind and heavily relied on their hearing for survival. A green eco vent was also housed there. Jak used it to kill some dark eco plants by the request of Samos. The race track was also located there. Once Jak beat the record for the gambler, he was rewarded with a Power Cell.

Lost Precusor City

Lost Precursor City was located right in the water of Rock Village. Jak ventured there to raise a chamber. Although the blue sage tried to do this, he never accomplishes it. Jak was successful after using blue eco. After raising the chamber, Keira said, "Wow! You've used eco in ways we've never even dreamt before." This city also contained one of the three known dark eco silos in the Old World.

Boggy Swamp

The Boggy Swamp was located on the outskirts of Rock Village. The lurkers set up a blimp over the top of the swamp. They had four tethers holding it down while they tried to pull up a precursor robot arm from a tar pit. A hillbilly named Boggy Billy and his hip hog(a smallish combo of a hippo and a hog) Farthy lived in the swamp.

Mountain Pass

Mountain Pass was full of explosives. If Jak had hit just one of the big ones, then he would have died and failed the mission. There were four Power Cells in the pass, one of which required activation of a yellow eco vent (or a lucky jump on foot) to acquire. When you reach the end of the mountain pass, you will end up with 3 Power Cells. The last Power Cell is hidden in the caves. The mountain pass led Jak to the Volcanic Crater. The mountain pass is also the last area in the Rock Village region.

Volcanic Crater

The Volcanic Crater was the last village before Gol and Maia's citadel. The Volcanic Crater was the hub area to Spider Cave, Lava Tube, and Snowy Mountain. Gordy and Willard were also located in this area. They were in a large tunnel with an even larger diamond. They gave Jak four power cells for 90 orbs each. There was also a lift to the Snowy Mountain and a hard to get power cell, requiring fast reflexes. The Volcanic Crater was also home to the final Oracle.

Snowy Mountain

The Snowy Mountain was home to the main power switch for yellow eco vents. There was a lurker fortress located up here as well. There were also many switches which Jak deactivated for a Power Cell. The lurkers in The Snowy Mountain were a different breed, geared toward protection from the ice. A yellow eco vent switch was located in an ice cave.

Spider Cave

Spider Cave's name suits it perfectly; There are very plentiful spider's and yellow eco vents scattered throughout. Spider Cave was home to a large Precursor robot, which the Lurkers were attempting to dig up. The Spider Caves were full of Dark Eco fitting Gordy's calling them the Dark Caves.

Lava Tube

Lava Tube was the final and the longest of the five A-Grav Zoomer levels. It took Jak through a tunnel that led underground to Gol and Maia's Citadel. It contained yellow eco, scout flies, large dark eco barrels, and lava. It was most likely used to transport lava out of Volcanic Crater due to the sewer-like end.

Gol and Maia's Citadel

The Blue Sage, the Yellow Sage, Samos (Green Sage), and the Red Sage are all met at Gol and Maia's Citadel. They were captured to make it easier for the Precursor Robot to open the Dark Eco silos. Jak had to traverse through four obstacle courses before he could take on Gol and Maia on the roof.

Dark Eco Silos

Gol and Maia used the Precursor Robot to battle Jak and Daxter in the final boss battle on top of the Dark Eco Silo where Jak uses Light eco. This is also the final of the three known Dark Eco Silos in the Old World.

The New World

300 years after the Metal Heads first entered the world through the Rift Gate, much has changed in the world. The legendary hero Mar built Haven City to protect the people and the Precursor Stone from the Metal Heads, and the world is much more crowded and technology-oriented. Haven City is almost permanently being fought over between different factions due to its central location and historical importance.

Haven City

Built by the hero Mar to protect his people, the catacombs, and the Precursor Stone from the Metal Heads, Haven City is a bustling metropolis that is at the center of many important events. Divided into several regions itself, it could be described as a world within a world; most of its citizens never venture outside of its walls. The "Dead Town" area of the city is partially built on the former site of Sandover Village.

KG War Factory

Constructed at an unknown time between the events of Jak 2 and Jak 3, the Krimzon Guard War Factory is a floating fortress that hovers around the perimeter and over certain sectors of Haven City. The machine droids that once served under the Krimzon Guard during the events of Jak 2 were decommissioned when the Guard underwent the new change into the Freedom League, uniting the soldiers of the old public security with members of the Underground. The KG commander Errol, whom had survived his encounter with Jak in Jak 2, albeit being reconstructed as a cyborg, took control of the deactivated units and began waging a war against Haven City. The War Factory became the center of conflict as more KG units were built faster than the League could destroy them. As the city started crumbling sector by sector, it became apparent to take the fight to them. Jak and Daxter boarded an aircraft and stormed the factory, blowing it apart from the inside.

Kras City

A large coastal city, which is famous for being home to several crime bosses and its dangerous combat racing sport. Much of the city is made up of docks and harbors, but the city center does feature several stadiums, bars, and other places of interest. Mizo and Krew both had strong connections in the city, making it a very dangerous place to live up until Mizo's defeat by Jak in Jak X: Combat Racing.

Spargus City

Spargus City is a city full of those banished to the Wasteland by Baron Praxis, the ruler of Haven City until his death in Jak 2. It is carved in a mountain near the coastline, with Damas, the ruler of Haven prior to Praxis, as its monarch. Spargus has two landmarks: the Arena "of Death" (as Pecker describes it), which tests newcomers' abilities and legibility of staying in Spargus; and Damas' Palace, but as of the end of Jak 3, it seems that Sig is now king. It is located in the Wastelands beyond the desert and mountains.

Metal Head Nest
The Metal Head Nest was the massive nest built by the Metal Heads. Located near Haven City, the nest was the size of a small mountain, and could be seen from the Palace in Haven City. The nest is surrounded by the remains of previous assaults; Baron Praxis once led an assault where he lost half his face. Mar created a massive energy weapon that was powered by the Precursor Stone. After Jak used the Precursor Weapon to enter the nest and killed the Metal Head leader Kor, the nest was never used again. The nest presumably is the remains of the original Dark Eco silos, where the original Hora-Quan nested to fight the Precursors. The nest still appears to exist at the beginning of Jak 3, as it is briefly visible during the game's opening; however, it is unknown whether it is still used by the Metal Heads at this time.

The Temple
The ruins that lie on a small island chain off the coast of the Wastelands that was constructed by the Precursors centuries ago. The structure itself is hidden within a mountain, with the pinnacle reaching the top of the rocks that gives clear view of the entire landscape. From there, it's possible to use a glider and utilize the wind gusts and accelerator rings to reach the summit of the Great Volcano in the far distance. After acquiring the ability to get pass the ancient security system, more areas of the temple become accessible, including a means to communicate with the Precursor Oracle and gain the abilities of Light Eco. Much of the architecture remains in ruin, though the majority of its ancient security systems remain active and require special means to bypass, these usually being tests of worthiness on the person more so than protection for the building. The Precursor Monks use the Temple as their base of operations when not residing in Spargus.

The Wasteland
The Wasteland is a huge desert outside Haven City & Spargus City. It can be seen from The Palace, The Floating Krimzon War Factory or The Temple. It is located near the Haven Forest and the large snowy mountains. The Wasteland is notably the largest known place in the series. In Jak II the only part of the wasteland that is explored is the Metal Head Nest where Jak defeats Metal Kor. In Jak 3 the wasteland has a huge part in the game. Jak was banished there by Count Veger and was eventually rescued by Damas. Outside Spargus City is countless miles of desert where desperate Marauders salvage for anything they can find. The desert gets massive sand storms where anyone that gets stuck in them is almost certainly doomed.

Most of Jak's time spent in The Wasteland is used on missions retrieving artifacts or traveling to the temple.
The Wasteland is inhabited by many marauders who will try to kill Jak with machine guns mounted on cars.
Cars and buggies are the most used transportation in The Wasteland. Most of the vehicles have weapons such as machine guns or grenade launchers equipped. The final boss battle of Jak 3 is fought in The Wasteland.
