List of short-haul aircraft
|
The following is a list of commercial short-haul civilian passenger aircraft. Background Passenger aircraft used for short-haul flights have become increasingly known as regional aircraft and regional airliners. Additionally, the initial development of short-haul jet airliners were a source of national pride, for this was one market the rest of the developed world could still have hope of succeeding within, as the long-range jetliner market was all but completely dominated by the Americans after the British de Havilland Comet lost its initial advantage. In the past, short-haul aircraft were often part of "mainline" airline fleets. Increasingly, the "short haul/short range" flying operations conducted by are being outsourced (or sub-contracted) by flag carriers, mainline carriers, and legacy carriers; to separately- but similarly-managed regional airlines. civilian passenger aircraft pre-WWII less than 40 seats * Boeing 247 (1933) * Curtiss Condor * de Havilland Dragon Rapide * Douglas DC-2 * Douglas DC-3 * Fokker F.VII * Ford Trimotor (1925) * Junkers Ju 52 (1930) * Lockheed Model 10 Electra * Vultee V-1 Post-war to 1978 Airlines were deregulated in 1978 in the US post-World War II non-jet * Airspeed Ambassador * Antonov An-2 * de Havilland Dove * de Havilland Heron * de Havilland Australia DHA-3 Drover * Convair CV-240 * Ilyushin Il-12 * Ilyushin Il-14 * Martin 2-0-2 * Martin 4-0-4 * Saab 90 Scandia * War surplus Douglas DC-3s * Vickers VC.1 Viking * Vickers Viscount post-Korean War to 1970 (Including first-generation short-haul turbojet and turbofan airliners) Reciprocating piston and turbine propelled short-haul airliners * Convair 540/580/600/640 conversions * Fairchild Hiller FH-227 * Fokker F27 * Handley Page Dart Herald (1955) * Hawker Siddeley HS 748 (1960) * Lockheed L-188 Electra * NAMC YS-11 * Vickers Vanguard (1959) First generation short-haul "turbojet" airliners *Aerospatiale Caravelle First generation short-haul "turbo fanjet" airliners * Tupolev Tu-124 * Fokker F28 * Hawker Siddeley Trident * Douglas DC-9 less than 40 seats prior to 1978 "Air-Taxis," "Commuters," and "Feederliners" * Antonov An-28 * Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander * Britten-Norman Trislander * Cessna 402 * Cessna 404 * Dornier Do 28 * Piper PA-31 Navajo Unpressurized feederliners and short-haul "mini-airliners" * Beechcraft Model 99 * Beriev Be-30 * CASA C-212 Aviocar * de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter * Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante * Let L-410 Turbolet * Saunders ST-27 * Short 330 Pressurized short-haul turboprop propelled "mini-airliners," the first "modern regional airliners" * Aérospatiale N 262 * Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner * Handley Page Jetstream Turbofan propelled first generation "mini-airliners," the first "regional jets" *Aérospatiale Corvette * VFW-614 *Yakovlev Yak-40 1980s & 1990s * Airbus A320 * Boeing 737-300 * Boeing 737-400 * Boeing 737-500 * BAe 146 * Fokker 70 * Fokker 100 * Yakovlev Yak-42 The following aircraft are generally considered among the class of "Regional jets" rather than short-haul airliners. These aircraft are never flown by "mainline airlines" or "legacy airline carriers" in the U.S., but may turn up in the a "legacy" or "mainlines" wholly owned regional airline subsidiaries fleet. Some "Flag airline carriers" in other parts of the world have included "regional jets" among their "flagship fleets". ** Canadair CRJ-100 ** Canadair CRJ-200 ** Canadair CRJ-700 ** Canadair CRJ-900 ** Canadair CRJ-1000 ** Embraer ERJ-145 ** Embraer ERJ-140 ** Embraer ERJ-135 ** Fairchild Dornier 328Jet 2000 & onward The following short-haul airliners, have turned up at "mainline airline carriers" in the U.S. and Canada, as well as many "low-cost carriers" and even "Flag airlines" across the world, but as yet have not found a place or a home with the "seemingly perpetually struggling mainline operations at the big legacy carriers" in the United States. * Antonov An-148 * Boeing 717 * Embraer E-Jets (Note: JetBlue Airways, Air Canada and many other airlines operate these as part of their mainline operations rather than as regional airliners.) * Embraer E-170 * Embraer E-175 2005 & onward * Embraer E-190 * Embraer E-195 * Bombardier CSeries under development * COMAC ARJ21 under development * Sukhoi Superjet 100 * Mitsubishi Regional Jet under development * Irkut MS-21 under development
