A nontheist or non-theist is someone who does not believe in any deities, or someone who does not believe in a personal god.
Nontheist in the first sense is equivalent to the broadest definition of the term atheist. However when atheist is defined as someone who asserts the nonexistence of deities, atheists are considered a subset of nontheists.

Various religious or philosophical stances have been identified as nontheistic. These stances may be nontheistic in the broad sense of not subscribing to belief in a singular personal god who intervenes in world events, or in the narrower sense of not subscribing to belief in deities of any sort.
