List of locations in Banjo-Kazooie series

This is a list of locations featured in the Banjo Kazooie series of video games.

Isle O' Hags

Isle O' Hags is the fictional island on which the Banjo-Kazooie universe takes place. This island derives its name from the evil witches that roam the area. These witches include the evil Gruntilda Winkybunion and her three sisters Mingella, Blobbelda, and Brentilda.

Spiral Mountain
Spiral Mountain is home to many characters, including Banjo himself. Banjo’s house lies on the outer part of Spiral Mountain. Gruntilda's Lair resides high up on a cliff opposite the Spiral Mountain itself.

Spiral Mountain derives its name from the spiral-shaped mountain that lies in the heart of the area, surrounded by a moat. The area goes through some damage in Banjo-Tooie after Grunty's sisters plow through with a powerful digging machine to rescue Gruntilda from beneath the rock she was trapped under during the conclusion of the first game. This area features several molehills that belong to Bottles, who teaches Banjo and Kazooie most of the moves they use throughout the games.

Gruntilda's Lair

Gruntilda's Lair is a dark and sinister lair, home to Gruntilda Winkybunion. In Banjo-Kazooie the lair acts as a main lobby, where Banjo and Kazooie enter the many worlds from. However, to unlock and enter the different worlds, they must first collect a certain number of Jiggies and put them in the painting-puzzles located throughout the lair. Once the puzzles are completed, the entrances themselves are opened and a sign bearing the name of the word is placed above the entrance. While exploring the lair, Grunty frequently makes comments about the duo and their progress.

In Banjo-Tooie, the lair is accessible by climbing the now broken bridge, but players can only enter the main entrance, where Cheato resides and will exchange five of his missing pages for cheat codes. Other parts of the lair are blocked by boulders that presumably fell when Grunty's sisters drilled through Spiral Mountain. Rumors fueled by the room's title, "Gruntilda's Lair (Entrance)", led some to believe there might actually be another accessible room, but hackers have discovered that nothing actually exists on the other side of the rocks. One particular hacker discovered a string of text that possibly indicates that there was originally an expanded purpose to the lair than just housing Cheato. The text that the hacker loaded was "Gruntilda's Lair (Tower Room)", although all attempts to load the actual map so far, have failed.

In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, a game that takes place in-between Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, Grunty returns to her base 30 years in the past for the game's final few battles. The only rooms shown are three small rooms where Banjo and Kazooie fight Klungo, then Grunty and then Klungo again; and the roof, where they fight Grunty in the final battle of the game. It appears that the place where Grunty's Lair resides was originally going to be a shrine to the Jinjo King of that period, judging by the broken stone head that resembles that of King Jingaling's on the ground near the Lair (which possibly explains why Jinjo statues appear atop of the tower during the final battle of Banjo-Kazooie). There are many worlds in her lair, which are suggested to have been created for her personal use.

Mumbo's Mountain
Mumbo's Mountain is a large mountain presumably owned by the shaman Mumbo Jumbo. Mumbo's Mountain holds several ruins, and a tall tower infested with aggressive termites as well as a village inhabited by imps at the foot of Hut. It is home to Chimpy the Chimpanzee, Conga the Gorilla, Big Butt the ox, and Mumbo himself. Mumbo transforms Banjo and Kazooie into a Termite that can scale steep slopes that even Kazooie can't handle when they request his services here after bringing him enough Mumbo Tokens.

Treasure Trove Cove
Treasure Trove Cove is an island with a tall arch-shaped cliff, a lighthouse, a large sandcastle where cheat codes can be entered and "", where the infamous pink egg is located. The cove is inhabited by bouncing clams, crabs, razor-toothed treasure chests such as Lockup, who has Gruntilda's booty, and naval mines that float in pools of water on several areas of the island. Leaky the Bucket resides here as do Nipper the Hermit Crab, Snacker the Shark (who hunts anyone who dares to swim in the deeper waters of the cove) and the shipwrecked Captain Blubber who lost his gold and needs it back.

Clanker's Cavern
Clanker's Cavern is a flooded sewer/landfill world and a part of Gruntilda's garbage disposal system. There are many pipes and tanks here, and given the garbage dump theme, the grungy, dirty water that is common in the area could actually be leachate. It is home to Clanker, a giant cyborg that seems to be a cross between a whale and a shark, who is the garbage disposal itself, and Gloop the fish. The cavern is inhabited by crabs, grate monsters and a gang of mutant crabs that stay in the toxic waste dump.

Bubblegloop Swamp
Bubblegloop Swamp is a large, dangerous swamp. The swamp is inhabited by crocodiles, dragonflies, frogs, and obnoxious piranhas that bite at Banjo or Kazooie's feet if they set foot in the muddy water. It is home to Mr. Vile the crocodile, Tanktup the turtle, Tiptup the turtle and the Tiptup choir. Mumbo resides in a hut here, located within a wood fence maze full of the dangerous swamp waters. His transformation, by Mumbo (who lives here, also in a hut) for Banjo and Kazooie here is a Crocodile that isn't attacked by the piranhas. This form also has a biting attack, and is the only form that can harm enemies.

Freezeezy Peak
Freezeezy Peak is a snowy, Christmas-themed mountain with a giant snowman located within the center. The peak is inhabited by attacking Ice cubes, snowmen and lightbulb-eating reptiles. It is home to Boggy the Polar bear, Boggy's three kids and Wozza the Walrus. Mumbo resides in a hut on Freezeezy Peak and his transformation for Banjo and Kazooie is a Walrus which can resist the effects of icy-cold water. The infamous Ice Key is located within Wozza's cave.

Gobi's Valley
Gobi's Valley is an Egyptian-themed desert and home to Gobi the camel. Some areas of sand in the area are boiling hot and are painful for Banjo to touch. The desert is inhabited by mummies and scarab beetles, as well as eels who dwell the molten sand pools. It is also home to Jinxy the Sphinx, King Sandybutt the Mummy, Trunker the Tree, Rubee the Snake Charmer, and Rubee's pets, Histup the Snake, and Toots, who also appeared in Banjo-Tooie. The infamous Blue Egg is located within a sarcophagus inside a usually inaccessible chamber in the valley.

Mad Monster Mansion
Mad Monster Mansion is a large mansion, owned by Gruntilda. Bizarrely, the furniture within the mansion happens to be double the size of Grunty herself. The mansion and its grounds are inhabited by bats, ghosts, skeletons, and animated tomb stones, as well as undead grate monsters. It is home to Loggo the toilet and Motzand and Napper the ghost. Mumbo resides in a hut within the grounds and his transformation for Banjo and Kazooie here is a small Pumpkin that can crawl through tight spaces.

Rusty Bucket Bay
Rusty Bucket Bay is a port containing a huge cargo ship, the H.M.S. Gruntilda, also known as the Rusty Bucket. The waters here are very polluted, and Banjo looses air in them twice as fast while swimming under the surface, and looses air even when his head is above the surface. The bay is inhabited by Boom Boxes, Seamen, and grate monsters. It is home to Snacker the shark (who is also in Treasure Trove Cove), Snorkel the dolphin, and Boss Boom Box. The Rusty Bucket is suggested to be owned by Captain Blackeye.

Rusty Bucket Bay is home to the infamous "Propeller Jiggy", which is one of the least popular jigsaw pieces in the entire game, due to the high risk of instant death while trying to get it. The player must first venture through an engine room (where instant death will occur if they fall down) and slam two switches to stop the propellers. Once that is done, the player has 65 seconds to get back up on the deck, dive in at the stern of the ship, swim through the propellers and get the Jiggy. If the player touches the propellers while they are moving, they will also instantly die.

Click Clock Wood
Click Clock Wood is a large forest centered around a giant tree, four different doors allow Banjo and Kazooie to enter the world through the four different seasons. The forest is inhabited by wasps, birds, squirrals, elves, ice cubes, snapping flowers, snowmen and an invincible ox, though they do not all appear in the same season. It is home to Eyrie the eagle, Gnawty the beaver, Nabnut the squirel, and temporarily to Gobi the camel. Mumbo resides in a hut in Click Clock Wood and his transformation for Banjo and Kazooie is a Bee, which can fly. He'll only transform them during spring; in summer he'll say it's too hot for magic, in Autumn he's too busy raking up leaves and is on holidays in Winter, as said by a beehive.

Locations of

Farm Heights
A farm-type world which Banjo initially has to venture through alone, due to Kazooie being kidnapped. The farm is on a cliff region full of springs and waterfalls, and is home to many farm animals who often need help from Banjo. The moves learned in Farm Heights are climbing, rolling and diving underwater. The transformation introduced at this level is the Rat, and the level's boss is Klungo.

Breegull Beach
May be a reference to Hammerhead Beach, which was originally intended to be in Banjo-Kazooie. The native breegulls have been enslaved by Grunty, who had them work in her mines. Banjo must battle Grunty to save Kazooie. The moves learned in Breegull Beach are backflipping (learned by Kazooie as opposed to Bozzeye), egg firing, Feathery Flapping and Talon Trotting. This is the only level without a transformation being introduced, but like the other levels, there's a Mumbo's Pad in the level to access the transformations already introduced.

Bad Magic Bayou
A swamp containing a haunted mansion and poisonous water. The area is mostly spooky and dead, and garbage such as car tires are present in the poison sludge. Moves learned in Bad Magic Bayou are Rat-a-Tat Rapping, Bill Drilling, and shooting Battery Eggs (a brand new egg type only seen in Grunty's Revenge). The transformation introduced at this level is the Candle, and the level's boss is Klungo.

Spiller's Harbor
Once a resort,Grunty and her cohorts overran the town, turning the once pristine area into a miserable town with litter, oily water and monsters. Moves learned in Spiller's Harbor are the Wonder Wing, Shock Jumping, and shooting Ice Eggs. The transformation introduced at this level is the Octopus, and the level's boss is Gruntilda.

Freezing Furnace
An icy mountain which is also home to a large furnace complex, Grunty Industries. This level only has one move, the Fire Eggs. The transformation introduced at this level is the Tank, and the level's boss is Klungo.

Jinjo Village
Jinjo Village is a fictional kingdom neighboring Spiral Mountain in Banjo-Tooie. In the game, the player must rescue several Jinjos that were held captive by the evil witch, Gruntilda Winkybunion. By rescuing an entire family of Jinjos, they award Banjo with their family heirloom, a Jiggy.

The village contains nine different coloured Jinjo houses and the ruins of a tenth, the Grey Jinjo house which was destroyed (and all the occupants killed) by the Hag 1. The village also houses King Jingaling's Palace, Bottles' house and a cave containing the Ice Key.

Wooded Hollow
The Wooded Hollow is a clearing in the woods of the island that contains Jiggywiggy's Temple, a golden temple in the shape of a jigsaw piece. Master Jiggywiggy resides within and challenges the duo to complete puzzle challenges to open up the various worlds in Banjo Tooie. The hollow is also the location of Heggy's Egg Shed, a large hollow egg that houses Heggy the hen, and the Mayahem Temple.

Mayahem Temple
Mayahem Temple is a Mayan-themed kingdom, ruled by Targitzan, with a large Ziggurat in the center. A smaller Ziggurat is also located here and contains the Code Chamber, for entering various game cheats, much in the vein of Treasure Trove Cove's sandcastle in Banjo-Kazooie. The temple is inhabited by Moggies, Stonies and Totem Poles that shoot darts. There is also a large treasure chamber, the Mayan Kickball Stadium and a prison chamber. Mumbo Jumbo also resides here along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into a Stony, which can talk to other Stonies and play kickball.

Plateau
The Plateau is a large plateau that houses Honey B's hive and contains the entrance to Glitter Gulch Mine. It is the site of Glitter Gulch Mine.

Glitter Gulch Mine
Glitter Gulch Mine is an expansive gold mine containing large piles of gems, prison cells, a waterfall, prospectors and caves filled with poisonous gas. The mine is inhabited by enemy hillbillies who pop out of the ground and try to attack Banjo and Kazooie. It is home to Old King Coal and his train Chuffy, which is derailed and must be fixed by Mumbo. Canary Mary and a flying saucer are also held captive here. Mumbo Jumbo resides here along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into a Detonator that can explode at will and ignite dynamite.

Pine Grove
The Pine Grove is a grove in the woods of the island that houses Wumba's Wigwam and is the entrance to Witchyworld theme park. There is also a large lake that was used for the now-defunct Log Flume ride that is also said that it can open a secret to Stop 'n' Swop (it cannot be fixed in anyway) and cannot be entered with out a GameShark levitation code.

Witchyworld
Witchyworld is a highly unsafe, previously condemned fairground endorsed by Gruntilda (reopened by Master Jiggywiggy), with dangerous rides and rude employees. The park is inhabited by evil slot machines and vermin-men wielding large mallets. Mrs. Boggy waits here for her children to return and requests the bear and bird to find them. Gobi the Camel, Scrut the Styracosaurus and a Jinjo are all held captive in the Cavern of Horrors. The park features various hazardous rides and attractions and located within the center is the Big Top, home to the level's boss, Mr. Patch. Mumbo Jumbo resides here along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into a van filled with money that can access special areas.

Cliff Top
The Cliff Top is a clifftop located near the Plateau, accessible by split up pads that open a door in the plateau located high above the island. It houses Mumbo's Skull, the Isle O,Hags train station and the entrances to Jolly Roger's Lagoon and Hailfire peaks
Jolly Roger's Lagoon
Jolly Roger's Lagoon is a large lagoon located next to a small town, containing the ruins of the lost civilization of Atlantis. The lagoon is comprised of two areas, a nautical village and the lagoon itself. The lagoon is inhabited by large dangerous fish, electric eels and octopuses. It is home to Jolly Roger, his partner Merry Maggie, Pawno, who owns a shop, and three pigs. The lagoon contains various ruins and Davey Jones' Locker, home to Lord Woo Fak Fak. Mumbo Jumbo resides here along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into a Submarine with unlimited torpedoes and sonic emissions.

Hailfire Peaks
Hailfire Peaks (a possible play on the word hellfire or the fact that this location has both a snowy mountain (hail) and fire) is a giant twin-peaked mountain, of which one side is of ice and snow the other is of fire and lava. They are both watched over by the dragon brothers, Chilli Billi and Chilly Willy. The peaks are inhabited by a variety of fiery and icy creatures and home to Boggy and his family, aliens who have crashed on the ice side, Sabreman and Gobi, who finally reaches his intended destination. The fire side contains a Colesseum while the ice side contains a large grotto, there are two train stations in Hailfire Peaks, of which one is usually inaccsessible. Mumbo Jumbo resides here along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into a Snowball, which grows as its health in creases and shrinks as it decreases; it can heal simply by rolling through snow.

The fire side of the mountain was originally planned to be "Mount Fire Eyes" in Banjo-Kazooie. When viewing the Isle o' Hags from above in Cloud Cuckooland, Hailfire Peaks can be seen a short distance offshore.

Wasteland
The Wasteland is a wasteland area in Isle 'O' Hags, accessible only by swimming under a lake in Pine Grove. It houses the entrance to Terrydactyland and the bubble that rises to Cloud Cuckooland.

Terrydactyland
Terrydactyland is an ancient prehistoric land dominated by a large mountain. In a nest at the top of the mountain resides Terry, a disgruntled single parent pterodactyl. Terrydactyland is inhabited by dinosaurs and mostly unfriendly cavemen. It is home to Dippy, Stomponadon, Chompa and the Styracosaurus family. Mumbo Jumbo resides here along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into either a Baby T-rex or a Daddy T-rex, both of which can roar to access special areas; the Daddy is large and can press equally-large switches.

Cloud Cuckooland
Cloud Cuckooland is a world that floats exceedingly high above the Isle O' Hags, made of an enormous, hollow purple mountain, surrounded by floating platforms of various oddities including a large wedge of smelly cheese, a pot of gold, and a gigantic trash can. Cloud Cuckooland is inhabited by strange, paper-like goblin creatures wielding all kinds of odd weapons such as sausages and candy canes. It is home to Canary Mary, the Zubbas and Mr. Fit. A giant safe called Superstash, who has forgotten his code, resides in the central cavern inside the mountain. Mumbo Jumbo resides here, however there are two skulls. The second belongs to Mingy Jongo who is impersonating Mumbo for unknown reasons. Humba Wumba also resides here and will transform the duo into a Bee which can not only fly, but fire stingers as well.

Quagmire
The Quagmire near the top of the island is a muddy, swampy and stormy plain. It is full of polluted purple muck and dead trees, as well as an oil pipeline from Grunty Industries. It houses the entrance to Grunty Industries, and the secret exit entrance you use to get to Cauldron Keep. There is also an elevated train track, which is inaccessible.

Grunty Industries
Grunty Industries is a massive factory for underwear manufacturing, endorsed by Grunty herself. The factory is inhabited by Tintops, Nuts & Bolts, barrels, and employees who attack the bear and bird. It is home to Loggo, who was moved here from Mad Monster Mansion, Clinker the loudspeaker and Weldar, a large welding torch who resides in the factory's bowels. Grunty Industries is a testament to Gruntilda's disdain for the environment, much in the vein of Rusty Bucket Bay. Mumbo Jumbo resides here (in a metallic skull) along with Humba Wumba, who transforms the duo into the infamous yet operational, underwear-firing Washing Machine that can access elevators for convenience in navigating the building.

Cauldron Keep
Cauldron Keep is a large castle-keep and the lair of Mingella and Blobbelda Winkybunion located at the top of Isle 'O' Hags. Grunty also resides here with her sisters. Cauldron Keep is the game's final level, though not a bona fide level like the others, as Jiggies, other items, and characters (Mumbo Jumbo, Humba Wumba and Sgt. Jamjars) are all absent. Banjo and Kazooie confront Klungo in the entrance hall for the final time. They are then forced to play and survive Grunty's Tower of Tragedy quiz, which is similar to Grunty's Furnace Fun in Banjo-Kazooie. After the credits roll, a cutscene shows Banjo and Kazooie reversing B.O.B.'s effects to bring King Jingaling and Bottles back to life, followed by a showdown on the roof with Gruntilda in her sisters' Hag 1 machine, which they eventually destroy.
