List of Honorary Aldermen of Wolverhampton

Background the Local Government Act 1972 (Section 249) provided for appointment of Honorary Aldermen. In July 1998 the Wolverhampton Metropolitan Borough Council agreed to establish a policy for this. Subsequently a procedure for reporting to Council on this matter was endorsed by the Policy and Resources Committee in September 1998. They also determined the eligibility criteria. Honorary Aldermen are invited to attend full Council meetings, in a non-participating capacity. They are also invited to various appropriate civic events such as Civic and Remembrance Sundays. The names of Honorary Aldermen are inscribed on a roll of honour board. This is situated on the ground floor of the Civic Centre.
