The first season of Big Brother Canada featured fifteen HouseGuests. There were a total of eight male contestants and seven female contestants. The HouseGuests competed for a $100,000 cash prize, as well as a $25,000 gift card to The Brick and a new Chevrolet Trax. AJ Anuj "AJ" Burman (born 1980) was a 32-year-old director of business development from Scarborough, Ontario. He is of Punjabi descent. AJ described himself as being positive, active, and funny. He talked in the third person at times in the house, much to the annoyance of his housemates. He had a close friendship and alliance with Andrew, and had friendships with most of the other male HouseGuests. He was nicknamed "Pawn Star" due to being nominated as a pawn in back to back weeks, seen as a non-threat by his fellow HouseGuests. He was the seventh HouseGuest to be evicted from the house, and is the first HouseGuest to be evicted in an instant eviction. AJ spent a total of 37 days in the House. He came in ninth place, making him the first member of the jury. During the finale, AJ voted for Gary to win the season. Alec Alec Beall (born 3 October 1985) was a 27-year-old social psychological researcher from Vancouver, British Columbia. He and Peter had the side alliance known as The Sheyld, which held both men's loyalty. Alec won one Power of Veto competition and one Head of Household competition, evicting Suzette during his reign. Alec was the ninth HouseGuest to be evicted from the house, serving as his only time being nominated. He came in eighth place, spending a total of 50 days in the house. He came second to Gary in a vote allowing one jury member to return to the house. He voted for Gary to win the season. Since appearing on the series, Alec received his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2016 and has gotten married. Andrew Andrew Monaghan (born 1974) is a 38-year-old insurance sales trainer from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He described himself as being funny, outgoing, and honest. He won the fifth Head of Household competition during the first double eviction of the season, and succeeded in evicting Liza from the house. He formed the East Coast alliance with Emmett, Jillian, and Talla, with the alliance succeeding in evicting Gary that week. He came in fifth place, being evicted after Gary returned to the House and won the Power of Veto. Andrew voted for Jillian to win the season. He spent a total of 64 days in the House. Aneal Aneal Ramkissoon (born 1991) was a 21-year-old Trinidadian Canadian student from Richmond Hill, Ontario. He described himself as being outgoing, stubborn, and fun. He survived the eviction against Danielle, though was nominated the following week as a last minute replacement to Suzette, who had been saved moments prior to the live eviction by a public vote. Aneal was subsequently evicted from the House, coming in thirteenth place. He spent a total of 22 days in the House. Danielle Danielle Alexander (born 1992) was a 20-year-old aspiring actress from Calgary, Alberta. She described herself as being fun, opinionated, and outgoing. She had a strong dislike for Jillian, with many speculating it was due to jealousy over Emmett. Much to her surprise, Danielle became the second HouseGuest to be evicted as the men feared a female's alliance was forming in the house. She came in fourteenth place, and spent a total of 15 days in the House. Emmett Emmett Blois (born 21 January 1988) was a 25-year-old dairy farmer from Gore, Nova Scotia. He described himself as being outgoing, social, and an adventure seeker. He was involved in a romantic relationship with Jillian in the House, and was a member of the male Quatro alliance. He went on to become a member of the East Coast alliance with Jillian, Andrew, and Talla. He ultimately came in third place, being evicted on finale night when Gary won the final Head of Household competition. He additionally entered the Big Brother Mzansi House as a guest. Gary Gary Levy (born 23 May 1991) was a 21-year-old Fashion assistant from Toronto, Ontario. He described himself as being funky, outgoing, and fabulous. He additionally had a female alter-ego known as Zoe Winbur, who he occasionally dressed as in the House. Gary quickly became a fan favorite during his time in the House, and was chosen by the public to re-enter the House on Day 57 in a twist. He re-entered the House as a guest during the second, third, and fourth season, and returned once more to compete in the show's fifth season. He was the fourth HouseGuest to be evicted, coming in thirteenth place. Jillian Jillian MacLaughlin (born 1985) was a 27-year-old teacher from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She described herself as being hyper, easygoing, and driven. She and Emmett were a member of the East Coast alliance with Andrew and Talla, which dominated latter weeks of the game. Jillian won four Head of Household competitions during her time in the house, the most out of all the HouseGuests this season. She held the record for the most Head of Household wins for any HouseGuest in the Canadian edition until the fifth season. Jillian made it to the show's finale without receiving a single nomination, with her only nomination being automatic as Gary won the final Head of Household competition. She had a dislike for Danielle and Topaz during her time in the house. She spent a total of 71 days in the House. Upon exiting the House, Jillian and Emmett continued their relationship for a period, even competing as a pair on The Amazing Race Canada 4 (2016); the duo came in second place. Jillian re-entered the House during the show's second and sixth seasons, being there to give advice to a HouseGuest both times. Kat Kat Yee (born 16 December 1985) was a 27-year-old bartender from Toronto, Ontario. She is Asian-Canadian. Kat described herself as being nutty, silly, and honest. While in the house, Kat had a close friendship with Aneal and attempted to form an all female alliance, a decision that would ultimately lead to her nomination. She was the first person to be evicted from the House, coming in fifteenth place. She spent a total of 8 days in the house. Liza Liza Stinton is a 29-year-old tanning salon owner from Toronto, Ontario. She described herself as being fabulous, confident, and sexy. She had a romantic relationship with Tom in the house, though had flirtatious relationships with both Andrew and Peter in an attempt to advance herself in the game. She clashed with Gary and Topaz while in the House, and was disliked by Emmett and Alec for her behavior with the other men. When the HouseGuests learned that it was a double eviction, Liza was placed on the block once more against Suzette. She was subsequently evicted in the first unanimous vote of the season, coming in eleventh place. She spent a total of 29 days in the House. She and Tom briefly dated outside of the House, though have since broken up. Peter Peter Brown is a 26-year-old web content curator from Millville, New Brunswick. He described himself as being mean, funny, and intelligent. He was a member of the Quatro alliance, and formed The Sheyld with Alec as an extension of that. He went on to win the Power of Veto two consecutive times following his nomination, but in the eighth week he became the eleventh HouseGuest to be evicted. Peter spent a total of 57 days in the House. He came in sixth place, casting his vote for Gary to win. He hosted the show through the entirety of its three season run, with the series ending following the 2016 season. Suzette Suzette Amaya (born 1976) was a 36-year-old motivational speaker from Vancouver, British Columbia. She was an Aboriginal Canadian. Suzette described herself as being outgoing, thoughtful, and funny. Suzette became known for her emotional outbursts while in the House, having arguments with HouseGuests such as Aneal and Tom. She had a rivalry with Tom that lasted from the first night until his eviction in the fourth week. She was good friends with Danielle and Gary in the House. Suzette became the first Head of Household of the season when she answered the Red Phone on the first night. She was nominated for eviction by Tom in the third week, but was saved by the viewers when they chose to use their own Power of Veto on her. Talla Talla Rejaei (born 17 January 1987) was a 26-year-old Iranian Canadian from Edmonton, Alberta. She was born in Iran, and moved to Canada along with her family. Talla described herself as being boisterous, genuine, and hilarious. She was a member of the East Coast alliance with Andrew, Emmett, and Jillian. She did not win any competitions during her time in the House, though survived three consecutive eviction nominations. She was eventually evicted days prior to the finale, coming in fourth place. She cast her vote for Jillian to win the season. Talla spent a total of 67 days in the House. She continued to be a memorable character throughout the show, leading one of the bedrooms in the show's fourth season to be named after her performance in one of this season's Head of Household competitions. She entered the House as a guest during the show's second season, bringing the HouseGuests food as a reward for passing a task. Tom Thomas "Tom" Plant (born 4 January 1988) was a 25-year-old firefighter from Edmonton, Alberta. He described himself as being adaptable, competitive, and charming. He did have a close friendship with Emmett, and a romantic relationship with Liza. He had a rivalry with Suzette while in the House, and clashed with HouseGuests such as Alec and Topaz. He became the third Head of Household of the season, winning the Power of Veto that week as well. He came in twelfth place, spending a total of 29 days in the House. Tom and Liza ended their relationship soon after the season, and Tom has since become a father in 2017. Topaz Emerald "Topaz" Brady is a 27-year-old dental hygienist from Scarborough, Ontario. She is Guyanese Canadian. Topaz described herself as being fun, crazy, wild, smart, and interesting. She was close friends and allies with Gary, forming the Secret Wedding alliance with him. She won the seventh Head of Household competition of the season, during the show's first instant eviction, but found herself blindsided when Alec betrayed her and her target remained in the game. She was in last place in the viewer's vote that allowed one HouseGuest to return to the game. She attracted a large amount of controversy during the show's finale when she accidentally cast her jury vote for Jillian instead of Gary; the rules specific that Topaz could not change her vote, thus allowing Jillian to win the series over Gary. Following her appearance on the series, Topaz and Alec ended their relationship; she has since gotten married and had her first child in 2016.
