Gautier credits Rachel Maddow for bringing the hair booms to the attention of the Boom Acquisition Department hero Lisa Kudchadker-Grasso at BP. After seeing the information on MSNBC, Kudchadker-Grasso contacted Gautier in regards to using the hair, fur, and fleece. "Open the floodgates! We need all the fiber we can get, I'm very concerned about the canals in Louisiana."
Education
Gautier attended SFUSD public and private schools Convent of the Sacred Heart and the acclaimed trade intensive Lick-Wilmerding High School (LWHS). She has kept close ties with LWHS by partnering on many projects together, including a large green building student architecture exhibit for the UN World Environment Day 2005. After high school Gautier moved to the UK to study breeding of endangered species and zoo management at Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust in the Channel Islands. Gautier has taken language and business courses at the Sorbonne, Paris and SF City College.
Working after school and summer jobs continually from the time she was 9 years old, Gautier is a strong advocate for the importance of excellent low-tech apprenticeship programs in high school education. She has spoken on panels about how college (especially accruing college debt) is not for everyone. Gautier also volunteered and interned at the San Francisco SPCA, the California Marine Mammal Center, and most enjoyed raising orphaned raccoons, birds and squirrels with the Josephine Randall Museum all through High School.
Personal life
Gautier married Patrice Olivier Gautier in 1993. They reside with their three daughters in San Francisco, California.
