Lipactin

LIPACTIN is a topical gel medicine manufactured by Novartis Consumer Health used for the treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus type I. The main medicinal ingredients in the gel are Heparin Sodium and Zinc Sulfate.
Although Lipactin doesn't "cure" its user from HSV, it has been clinically shown to significantly reduce the pain associated with the Herpes virus infection and increase the rate of healing of perioral and lip lesions when compared to the drug-free healing process. In a particular study, 96% of the members of a test group who used lipactin have seen the resolution of at least 2 of their symptoms in less than three days, and a 83% healing rate in less than seven days, compared to 45% and 26% respectively for a placebo group.
The gel is for external use only, for the treatment of Herpes labialis, Herpes febrilis, fever blisters and cold sores amongst others.
It is available over-the-counter in Canada.
Nonmedicinal ingredients include glycerin, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, polysorbate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose and water.
