Linguistic Survey of Tirwa

The Linguistic survey of Tirwa was organized from January,28-31 2012 to collect the linguistic data from Tirwa in context of English Language. This survey was earlier planned to finish in three days but due to the unexpectedly large number of entries it took two more days to complete the work of Data collection.
Managing committee
A team of local volunteers was trained to do the inspection and to note down and manage the data. Training was done for three days before the survey. During this period volunteers were trained for three hours each day to do the fieldwork. Most of the volunteers, although being from language and Literature background, were not expert in fieldwork. So it was a challenge to train them to face the real situations.
After three days of training 40 volunteers were chosen to help in this survey.
Problems
During survey many problems were also faced. Funding was one of the major problems. Although people were curious about it but nobody was ready to patronize the survey to run it successfully. Mahavigyan was the organization to move step forward and help in this cause. All the expanses including the volunteer and participants expanses were bear by this organization.
Methodology
A different methodology was followed to know the actual challenges. Focus of the survey was mainly on these points-
* Perception
Ability of perception of English was checked in this step.
Some audio clips with Indian and British accent were played and students were said to note down what they were getting.
* Comprehension
The ability to comprehend the English language was checked in this step.
* Production/Articulation
The ability to speak English with native proficiency was checked in this step.
Some paragraphs were made using the normal sounds and the sounds which are often mistakenly pronounced by Hindi speakers. Students were said to narrate them and mistakes made by them were noted by inspector volunteers.
To ensure the accuracy of the results this survey was performed separately on Rural and Urban level.
Media support
This survey became very popular due to the joint support of the media and other people. Time to time news were published to update people about the survey status and achievements. Some of the news papers that supported this survey are , Hindustan and Daenik Jagran.
For good results social media like Facebook, twitter etc platforms were also used which resulted in great success.
