Lily Shang

Lily Ting Ting Shang (; born September 25, 1986) is a Chinese-Canadian violinist, composer and private teacher residing in New York City. Shang began focused study her instrument at age 13 when her grandfather bequeathed her a violin and she is currently studying with Jennifer Choi, a former student of Dorothy DeLay.
Performer
Shang is a currently a first violinist in the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble under conductors Timothy Hutto and José Alejandro Guzmán.
On December 3, 2010, she gave her first performance in the city with with the New York Chamber Players under Maestri Giacomo Franci and Delio Cassetta. In May of that same year, Shang was invited by Creative Director Jean-Philippe Tremblay to join l'Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne (OFC) for their summer residency in Montreal. Their performance at the Lachine Music Festival was lauded "Quel héroïsme!" by music critic Claude Gingras. Shang and previously worked with Tremblay when he conducted her in the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO) in 2002.
Lily was first exposed the orchestral world under the batons of Sir Andrew Davis and Susan Haig when she joined TSYO at age 14, performing at the Roy Thomson Hall and Toronto Centre for the Arts.
Compositions
On January 27, 2011, Shang released the recording of her first opus, entitled "the end of love", for solo piano. Although the piece had undergone many permutations, including an arrangement for trio, recorded my musicians of the OFC, she decided to move forward with original instrumentation.
She is currently working on a "tango macabre" for violin, and viola.
