Lights In Atlantis

Lights In Atlantis is an Australian alternative post-hardcore band from the southern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria and was formed in 2008.
History
Formation
In early 2004 while in high school, guitarist Matthew Heskins and bassist Brendan Parsons formed a band with close mutual friends Damien Anderson and Christian Parsell. They gave the band the working title 'Jump Out And Fire' and quickly secured a place playing at a school Battle Of The Bands competition.
During this time guitarist Ian Zbiegniewski was asked to join a band playing under the name 'The Zeros' with Douglas Fincher on drums. Both bands played along side each other for 2 years until in 2006 The Zeros disbanded.
In 2005 Nathan Archer replaced Parsell on the drums of Jump Out And Fire. After getting close as musicians for a year, the band started a search for a dedicated singer/screamer. On the dawn of 2006 the band found Jeff Wisdom and started writing original material for a demo immediately.
On the release of their demo material, the band changed their name to 'Scarlet Fever' and started playing shows in Melbourne. Eventually the band lost steam on the back of the new singer and in 2007 Wisdom left and the band went into hiatus.
Development
During their time off Heskins, Anderson, Archer and Parsons wrote a plethora of new material and redefined the band. With a new sound came yet another name: Lights In Atlantis.
2008 saw the departure of Anderson so he could focus on his studies, which left an opening for an old friend; Ian Zbiegniewski to replace Damien on guitar. With a style developing the band quickly discovered former 'With Wings From Above' vocalist Jesse King through ausband.com, completing the first form of Lights In Atlantis.
Material was developed and a 3 track Demo recorded with Closure In Moscow's Beau McKee before being released mid-2008. Soon afterwards there was interest in bringing a new level to the Lights In Atlantis sound, so Mornington local Miles Ross was recruited to play synth and keys for the band.
With the release of the demo came an intense period of touring and promotion. The band began to generate a healthy following from the local scene and international recognition from MySpace.com.
Current Line-Up
In November 2008 Zbiegniewski took some time to travel and spent the rest of the year in Perth, Western Australia.
Lights In Atlantis took a pause and during this time bassist Brendan Parson also decided to leave the band to focus on studying. Miles switched from keys to bass, and returning in January 2009, Zbiegniewski brought former band member Douglas Fincher to complete the line up on keys and programming.
Future Endeavours
Lights In Atlantis agreed to a distribution deal with Life Burns Records in January 2009, and plan to record an entire EP in April for release within the first half of the year.
Musical style and influences
The sound of Lights In Atlantis is melodic post-harcore, akin to the sound of Dance Gavin Dance, Alexisonfire, Devil Wears Prada and Ivoryline.
Both guitars are used for phrasing as well as rhythm, while the bass voices the body of the music.
Jesse's vocals are influenced by Misery Signals; the backing vocals are cleaner to contrast the abrasive presence of screaming.
Most songs in the Lights catalogue contain either synthesis or programming, or both. Synthesis involves triple internal oscillators running through Apple's Mainstage. All programming is Logic driven, and completely within a digital audio system.
