Lexi Lawson

Lexi Lawson is an American actress, singer, and composer. She is best known for assuming the lead role of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton in the musical Hamilton from its originator, Phillipa Soo.
Biography
Originally from the Bronx, Lexi Lawson grew up in Newburgh, NY of the Catskill Region. Both of her parents were musicians. Lawson received her first paid role at the age of 14, in a commercial with Sprint.
Career
In 2009, Lawson made it to Hollywood in the eighth season of American Idol. The day before she planned to leave for the show, she received news that she had been cast to play Mimi in the Broadway tour of RENT. She made the decision to leave the show and pursue a career in stage acting with the role she had been offered. Lawson was later cast in the leading role of Vanessa in the national tour of In The Heights. Her other stage credits include Fame, Runaways, The Trip and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
In 2016, upon Phillipa Soo's departure from the show Hamilton, Lexi Lawson assumed the principal role of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton. She is currently portraying this role on Broadway.
Lawson's TV and Film credits include “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” (2009 - New Line Cinemas) starring Michael Douglas, Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Gardner, “Can you Hear The Music”(Intermedia), “What Would You Do?” (ABC), and “Evergirls” (Nickelodeon). She also portrayed Rose Salas in the telivision series The Mentalist.In 2010, Lawson was featured in So You Think You Can Dance and made it to the top 8 before being voted off.
Lawson composed the score of Gala and Godfrey (2016), which was released on April 8, 2016.
