Laurentiu Bulareanu

Laurentiu “Lenti” Bulareanu (born February 10, 1977; died January 27, 2008) was a Romanian mountaineer who died descending from Aconcagua (6962m).

Early life

Lenti was born in Baicoi, Prahova, Romania. He was educated at Baicoi School and Petroleum and Gases Institute from Ploiesti. From the youth the mountain was his life. Lenti put his feet on almost every marked on non-marked mountain route in Romania. He knows the Romanian Carpathian Mountains like his own pocket.
“Lenti” is described by his friends like an expressive, compassionate man of a tall, strong and immensely fit physique.

Aconcagua Expedition

In that expedition Laurentiu “Lenti” Bulareanu was accompanied by his wife, Toni. Arrival in Argentina was in 01.02.2008 and the acclimatization was made first at 2700m for 2 days, in time when they climb and descend several peaks (from 3000 - 4200m).
They arrive at the base camp on the 18.02.2008 and they follow the second round of acclimatization. The final ascent was begun on 26.02.2008 at 07.00 a.m. and they arrive on the peak at 03.00 p.m. The ascent was made in 9 hours.
After a short time on the peak, they begin to descend and Laurentiu begin to fall ill. They stay over night at camp situated at 6000m and unfortunally in the morning Laurentiu passed away.
He was the first victim of the Aconcagua in 2008 season.
