Laura Warwick is a British soul singer songwriter. She is best known for her project 'The Public Record Label'.
Biography
Laura was born in London but moved to Kent at a young age. She is the oldest of 3 children, with an Irish mother and English father. Her great uncles are Ray and Dave Davies of the Kinks. She has said in interviews that she didn't always want to be a singer, rather that she was pushed to do well academically and go to university. However in her early teens she developed a love of music and singing, and at 17 decided to leave school and pursue a career in music.
The Public Record Label
When she failed to be picked up to be picked up by a record label, Laura began trying to find ways to record and release music independently. In 2008 she launched the Public Record Label, giving fans a chance to buy shares in her album, and receive a share in the profits. Laura has said in interviews that she got the idea from a combination of things, including Young Enterprise , and the idea that other musicians in her position sometimes ask for donations to help pay towards recording costs . In July 2008 she appeared on The Evening Show on BBC Radio Wales, performing a live session and talking to presenter Amy Wadge about the project.
