The Las Cruces Academy is a private educational institution located in Las Cruces, New Mexico (United States) teaching from Kindergarten to the 8th grade. It was founded by Dr. Lou Ellen Kay and Dr. Vincent Gutschick in 2009, making it the newest private school located in Doña Ana County. There are around 40 children attending the school as of 2020. The school follows the Las Cruces Public Schools schedule, except holidays. History According to the Las Cruces Academy website, future founder Dr. Lou Ellen Kay was "worried about the state of education"<ref name="auto"/> During her teaching career at New Mexico State University, Dr. Kay worked to incorporate her future school, which occurred on 2 March 2007. After retiring from teaching at New Mexico State University in January 2008, she prepared for the first school year. August 2009 was the start of the first year. In the summer of 2011, the Preston Contemporary Art Center closed, opening the opportunity to move the school into a larger building. This building is the site of the current school. <ref name="auto"/>
