Landesförderinstitut (state funding institutes) (also: promotional banks) are special banks of Germany which pass on public funds through special loan programs. In particular, they work in the following areas: # Securing and improving the structure of small and medium-sized enterprises, in particular through business start-up financing, # State social housing promotion, # Provision of risk capital, # Structural development of cities and municipalities, # Infrastructure, # Measures in agriculture, forestry and rural areas, # Environmental protection measures, # Technology / Innovation measures # Measures of a purely social nature, # Measures of a cultural and scientific nature. Organization of the funding institutes At the federal level, the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank act as national promotional banks.
