Lance Haas was formerly the band and choir director at Wilmot Union High School from 1970 to 2011. Although he attempted to retire twice, he retired permanently in 2011. Haas was a drummer for an early version of The Steve Miller Band in the late 60's, but left the band before they achieved national fame to finish his musical studies at college. While working at Wilmot, Haas ran multiple bands inside of the school band program as well as outside projects, most notably the "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band", which was a rock band with full rhythm section and horn section that played covers of popular music (the band dissolved after Haas' retirement in 2011). In 1993, Haas was voted the "Wisconsin Teacher Of The Year". In 2011, Haas completed and unveiled his musical, "Wilmont", which was about how people and schools would spell Wilmot's name, "Wilmont", for various occasions, such as parades and concerts. It received fair reviews from theater-goers. In 1982, Haas released an album consisting of ten songs he wrote in the mid to late 70's. It was recorded at his home and features him playing all the instruments. The music is mostly keyboard oriented and relies heavily on psychedelic and pop themes. Discography L.H.-1982
