Laicology

Laicology means the theology of the laity and deals with the laity's identity and role in the church, i.e. the institutional aspects. Laiocology is a highly specialized term that falls under the broader concept of ecclesiology.
Context: </br>Particularly in the past there was a gulf between the priesthood and the laity due to the priesthood's extended use of scholastic jargon. To overcome this the laity had to be educated, this is referred to as "theology for the laity". Thus educated, the laity could carry out independent theological reasoning, this is referred to as "theologizing by the laity". The overarching theme is the identity, role and other instittutional aspects of the laity in the church, i.e. laicology.
