L.A. Percussion Rentals (LAPR) is a percussion and backline instrument rental company in the Los Angeles area, located in Santa Clarita, California. History LAPR was started by Abby and Dan Savell, who are married percussionists in the LA region. Each owning small collections of percussion instruments before they met, after their marriage they combined and added to the collection. Abby and Dan attended California Institute of the Arts, though at different times in their earlier professional years. A variety standard percussion instruments (i.e., xylophone, glockenspiel, marimba, snare drum) were important for most percussion gigs, so the instrument collection grew. In 2005, the collection was sufficient to start L.A. Percussion Rentals. LAPR moved into their current warehouse in Santa Clarita in 2010. Abby and Dan continue to work as professional musicians while running LAPR with a close staff. Instrument design, fabrication, and restoration Because of some instruments' inherent rarity, LAPR has designed and constructed instruments, such as a chromatic set of tuned bell plates. LAPR works with Odd Art Fabrications to custom design, fabricate, and restore instruments and hardware such as chromatically tuned wood blocks., as used in Star Wars: In Concert Emil’s instruments have played an integral part in the recordings he’s performed on, which numbers over two thousand in his career. LAPR finalized the purchase of a large portion of the Emil Richards Collection in early 2012. Many of the instruments have been restored by LAPR, and continue to be used in recordings and other performances in the Los Angeles area. Clients LAPR has supplied percussion and other backline equipment to acts such as Star Wars: In Concert,, Aspen Music Festival and School, Los Angeles Philharmonic, London's Royal Philharmonic, composer Hans Zimmer, Nine Inch Nails, , Ojai Music Festival, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
