Kolty Chess Club

The Kolty Chess Club is one of the oldest active chess clubs in the United States. Formerly known as the San Jose Chess Club, it was renamed in honor of George Koltanowski in 1979. In the early 1980s, it started meeting in Campbell, CA. The Kolty Chess Club continues to meet every Thursday at the Campbell United Methodist Church.
Notable players
Grandmaster Vinay Bhat started his chess career at the Kolty Chess Club, playing regularly between 1991 and 1995. He became the youngest national master at 10 years and 176 days old, breaking the previous record. World Under 18 Chess Champion Steven Zierk participated in many Kolty tournaments between 2000 and 2008.
