The Knightsmith is a type of shot whilst playing pool. This was created in coventry in the early parts of the 21st century. It is the practice of purposely playing a snooker when playing pool even though there are other obvious shots available. It can also includes just gently playing the white so it nestles just behind one of your own colours, thus preventing the opponent from playing a shot without using a cushion first. It is a practice frowned upon and is used generally by players who lack the ability of making pots that are not easy. It also gives them extra shots if their opponent fouls. They would then play normally potting balls until their two shots carried are finished and they only have one shot left. (This is only used if they are playing the form of pool which gives them two shots carried following a foul shot.) Even though never linked to any individual this practice is now commonly used in 8 ball pool, expecially in Toronto, Canada.
