Kittredge West Hall

Kittredge West Hall is a dorm in the Kittredge Complex of the University of Colorado Boulder. It is located South of the campus. Kittredge West is and houses over 250 CU students.
History
Kittredge Commons was built in 1963-1964 on the Southeastern side of campus. It was built after the rest of the dorms in Kittredge Commons, including Andrews, Arnett, Buckingham, and Smith. Kittredge West itself opened in 1980 to students of University of Colorado. All of the campus buildings are of a Tuscan Vernacular, which Kittredge West follows with a more relaxed and residential tone. The name Kittredge West came to be because another name could not be decided on. When the building was being constructed, it was called Kittredge West because it was located west of the Kittredge Complex. When it came time to decide on a name, the options were 1) Tyler Hall (Tyler was a friend of Colonel Kittredge -after whom Kittredge Complex was named) or 2) Flowers Hall (named after the first woman who graduated from CU). Due to the lack of funds for landscaping, every Christmas the residents of Kittredge West would buy a Christmas tree during the Christmas season. After Christmas was over, the students would plant it somewhere around the dorms. The trees continue to thrive today.
Kittredge West rooms and amenities
Kittredge West has three room type choices:
* cluster, which consists of three double rooms and a bathroom.
* A double, triple, quad or 5-person room, all of which require the use of a community bathroom.
* A two-student room with private bathroom.
In Kittredge West each resident has 3-drawer dresser, chair, desk lamp, desk with a shelf, and an extra long twin bed. Each room also includes an area run, microware, mini fridge, recycle and garbage can, smoke dedicator, closet, and curtains.
Future plans for Kittredge West
The University of Colorado has big plans in store for Kittredge West - a $22.8 million renovation that will begin in May 2012 and end in August 2013. The halls will not be available to live in during the 2012-2013 school year. The plan is to create a Residential Academic Program (RAP) to “create community in the dorms." The new hall will include study rooms for students outside of their dorm rooms, classrooms for the RAP classes, and faculty apartments, making Kittredge West a more desirable place to live. The dorms will also become more eco-friendly, featuring natural lighting, improved automatic lighting, and better windows. Kittredge West is currently , and an additional will be added during the renovation.
