Kings of the Underground: The Dramatic Journey of UGK

Kings of the Underground: The Dramatic Journey of UGK is a 2010 American documentary feature film directed by Thomas Gibson. The film recounts the modest beginnings of Pimp C and Bun B, who formed the rap duo UGK. This Port Arthur based group was a pioneering hip-hop force in Houston, Texas.
The film narrates UGK’s influence on hip-hop and their pursuit to remain relevant in an ever changing industry. The documentary examines Pimp C’s personal struggle with penitentiary life and Bun B’s tireless movement for his business partner and friend’s freedom. UGK’s quest to re-conquer the rap world was not meant to be as Pimp C died December 4, 2007. An overdose of cough syrup and a preexisting sleep apnea condition killed Chad Butler, better known as rapper Pimp C, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner. His death has been ruled an accident.
Kings of the Underground is a classic tale of two childhood friends united in one struggle to make good on a promise that they would always be “UGK For Life.”
