Kingdoms Fall

Kingdoms Fall is a series of three novels written by Edward Parr. They are historical spy fiction novels set during World War I and record the activities of two British spies who are either involved in, cause, or witness numerous major events of the war. In style, the stories resemble the adventures of Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin (from the novels by Patrick O'Brian) or Richard Sharpe and Patrick Harper (from the novels by Bernard Cornwell). Many of the details in the Kingdoms Fall novels are based on actual historical events, while others are fictional.
The first novel in the series is entitled Kingdoms Fall: The Laxenburg Message, first published in 2013. In this story, British Lieutenant David Gresham and Captain James Wilkins are recruited into the British Secret Intelligence Service during the British landings at Suvla Bay in August 1915. They subsequently become involved in the split between the King of Greece and his Prime Minister, Eleftherios Venizelos, while they prepare for the Allied landings at Salonika (now Thessaloniki). The story continues in Serbia, in Austria, and France immediately before the Battle of Verdun. The title refers cryptically to the village of Laxenburg, Austria, where members of the Emperor Franz Joseph's family would sometimes reside.
The second novel in the series is entitled Kingdoms Fall: The Korniloff Affair, referring to the attempted coup d'etat by General Lavr Kornilov during the Russian Revolution in 1917. The third novel, to be entitled Kingdoms Fall: The Wieringen Proposal, will take place in 1918 and involve the fall of the Hohenzollern dynasty and the end of Imperial Germany.
