Kindness UK is not-for-profit organisation with the sole aim of promoting, sharing and uniting kindness in all its forms. Kindness UK strives to encourage social change through re-alignment of core values resulting in a positive impact on socio-economic, personal and environmental development. History Kindness UK was launched in 2011 by David Jamilly, founder of the Good Deeds Organisation and Pod Children's Charity, with the sole aim of making kindness a greater part of day to day life. Kindness UK works with individuals, other good-willed organisations, community groups, schools, authors and academics. About In 2011 David Jamilly founded Kindness UK. Kindness UK is a non-monetary, independent, humanitarian organisation which aims to promote, share and unite kindness every day and make kindness a greater part of everyone's day to day lives. Kindness UK hosted the 7th General Assembly of the World Kindness Movement on the 18-20 September 2012. Delegates from Singapore, China, Australia, USA, UK, India, South Korea, Japan, Spain and Italy attended the conference. In 2013 Kindness UK designed and printed a Kindness Pack for primary schools. This pack was distributed free of charge to around 23,000 primary schools across the UK. Approximately 1,200 primary schools were appointed as official Kindness UK ‘Kind Schools’ and awarded with Kind School Certificates. In 2014 Kindness UK designed and printed a Kindness Pack for secondary schools. The kindness packs are designed to engage values and a kind ethos as part of general education and life. The packs comprise of a resource for teachers to use alongside the existing national curriculum. Kindness Day UK David Jamilly co-founded and co-launched Kindness Day UK in 2010. The Kindness Day campaign is celebrated by numerous charities, businesses, academics, governmental institutions, associations and individuals within the UK. Kindness Day UK is celebrated every 13 November on World Kindness Day and encourages people to recognize the value of kindness and perform at least one act of kindness on the day. Research Kindness UK work in 6 strategic areas of research: HEALTH AND WELL-BEING - Kindness UK have compiled and collated a growing body of research into the links between kindness, Oxytocin and Serotonin, kindness as a contagious force and its various other benefits. Kindness UK are publishing a paper on this subject in 2014. EDUCATION - Kindness UK designed and created a new Kindness Pack which is being used extensively in primary schools throughout the UK. The pack received high acclaim from teachers and educational experts and was distributed to 23,000 schools across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Comments from teachers and academics can be viewed on the endorsements page of the website. Kindness UK have written a pack for secondary schools for free distribution in 2014 to over 4,500 secondary schools in the UK. COMMUNITY - Kindness UK commissioned and published new academic research paper written and researched by Dr Andrew Curtis in 2013. The paper, titled “Kind Society”: Why Kindness Still Matters in the 21st Century”, details findings such as: - Acts of kindness can be encouraged and fostered by advocating greater mutual sympathy, empathy and trust. - Redressing years of performance management culture in professions such as health and education, by advocating a greater role for kindness, is vital. - Greater research is required in the area of kindness. - Kindness can only be authentic if an element of free choice is involved. RELIGION Kindness UK completed a new research paper in March 2013 in collaboration with Laurens de Rooij (Durham University). This explores the role of kindness in the ten largest religions (as rated by following). The paper demonstrates that each religion has kindness at its core and highlights findings such as: - Although there are undeniable differences among the traditions, the practice of kindness is something that is touched upon in all. - Despite the word ‘kindness’ being only a recent English term, all the traditions have older utterances of the concept. - Humankind not only shares its humanity but it also shares a notion of kindness that transcends time and national boundaries. CYBER-KINDNESS - Kindness UK researched the function of kindness in our modern technological age. The document was completed in March 2013 and explores: - What role does kindness play in social media? - Does kindness outweigh cruelty on these platforms? - How might we change social media and our online behaviour to promote cyber-kindness? BUSINESS AND COMMERCE - Kindness UK have amassed an increasing quantity of research on the effects of kindness in the workplace such as increasing prosperity and positive relations. External campaigns Kindness UK were asked to guest judge Nissan’s CARED4 competition which is aimed to search for and reward kind people in the community. Kindness UK are currently conducting a National Kindness Survey, and hosted the 7th general assembly of the World Kindness Movement at their London headquarters in September 2012. Media Kindness UK contributes extensively to media coverage including ITV Day Break and BBC radio appearances as well as contributions to location and national news stories.
