Nasen is and education and development company based in the UK which aims to promote the education, training, advancement and development of all those with special and additional support needs. History The organisation began in 1992 when the National Association for Remedial Education (NARE) joined with the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) in order to create the current day company Nasen The NCSE was created in 1973 when the Association for Special Education merged with the Guild of Teachers of Backward Children and the College of Special Education. NARE began in 1963 as a governmental initiative to improve secondary education. Products Nasen produces resources such as teaching programmes for special needs education. The company also produces a range of journals including the British Journal of Special Education, Support for Learning, Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs, as well as the education magazine; "Special". They run events and conferences that are focused on developing the professional skills and practices that are needed for working with children and young people with special and additional educational needs and disabilities. Nasen Live is an annual 2-day event hosted by nasen at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton. With an average attendance of over 1000 people Nasen Live is used to advertise new products, as well as keep visitors up to date with changes in the education sector such as the new Ofsted frameworks, changes to the National Curriculum and any changes to the Teachers Standards. Awards The Nasen Awards are annually awarded to individuals and organisations in the education sector. There are 9 categories: *The Inclusive Children’s Book * The Special Educational Needs Academic Book * Book to promote Professional Development * Inclusive Resource to support Early Development * Primary Resource/Book to support Teaching and Learning (non ICT) * Secondary Resource/Book to support Teaching and Learning (non ICT) * ICT Resource to support Teaching and Learning * Special Award 2011 - Resource to support Speech, Language and Communication Needs The winner receives a small monetary award as well as coverage in Nasen publications.
