Kill Bill Chronology

Kill Bill is a two-part action thriller film, released in 2003 and 2004 by writer-director Quentin Tarantino and starring Uma Thurman and David Carradine. It is one story, divided into two volumes with five chapters each, presented in a nonlinear narrative style, as is common among Tarantino's films. For a synopsis in cinematic order (that is, following the narrative structure of the film), see the main article. Despite considerable time-shifting throughout the film, discerning the overall sequence of events is not difficult, thanks in part to the extensive use of narration. The time sequence of the film's ten chapters is as follows: :Chapter 3. The Origin of O-ren :Chapter 8. The Cruel Tutelage of Pai-Mei :Chapter 6. Massacre at Two Pines :Chapter 2. Elle and I :Chapter 10. Face to Face Additionally, several of the chapters contain out-of-sequence elements. These include flashbacks (such as the Los Angeles sequence in the middle of chapter 10), but also more complex structures. For example, at the end of chapter 8 the story flashes forward to conclude the events of chapter 7. There are also several short clips that are outside of the chapter structure, such as at the beginnings and ends of each volume. It is not really possible to sequence each moment of the film, but a reasonable attempt can be made: The Volume 1 introduction, in which The Bride is shot, occurs at the end of chapter 6. The chapter 2 flashback in which The Bride remembers Buck occurs earlier in that chapter. The vignette in chapter 5 that introduces Go-go occurs at an unspecified time. The flash-forwards at the end of Volume 1 which introduce the Volume 2 characters are repeated in chapter 7. The Volume 2 pre-credits narration, as well as the closing-credits shot of The Bride driving, seem to occur during her drive to Mexico in Chapter 10. See Also
