KEWS (99.9 FM, "Mighty 100") is an unlicensed micropower radio station broadcasting an Oldies/Classic Hits/News/Talk Hybrid format.
Operating in McKinney, Texas. The Call sign KEWS is not necessarily related to the Original KEWS However, The Station uses these call signs over the air. And are currently not used by any other radio stations in the United States.
History
Mighty 100 first Broadcast on The Frequency of 1610 Khz as "Fatdog 1610" 3 Days Later "fatdog1610" Fried its Transmitter. It was off Air Until July 2008. On July 10th 2008 Mighty 100 was conducting Test Broadcasts in Seis Lagos (subdivision) in Wylie, TX on 1650 KHZ as Lago Oldies 1650.
1650 then Moved to McKinney, TX on July 12th 2008. For 3 Days 1650 was testing its Signal. On July 15th 2008 "Mighty 1650" was born. With a Schedule of NOAA weather radio Nights. Music During the day. Programming remained this way until September 2008 When "Mighty 1650" started playing music 24/7. On August 8 2008 "Mighty 1650" got a Real Website. In October "Mighty 1650" Also Increased its Range by setting up a better antenna, started picking up shows to air, got a Talk Radio Network put on the station, and Mighty1650.tk Opened up. In Late November "Mighty 1650" once again Upgraded its Antenna. Then on Dec 3 2008 at 5:15 PM CST "Mighty 1650" was forced off the air. The Last Songs Aired that day Were "for What its Worth" And "Don't Stop Believin' ".
"Mighty 1650" Then Returned to the Airwaves on Dec 20 2008. Its Regular Format Resumed.
On January 3rd 2009 "Mighty 1650" Began Streaming On Saturdays and Sundays.
However Streaming was short lived.
"Mighty" 1650 Changed its schedule in Late March to Music in the morning and NOAA weather radio at nights . And Kept its traditional Show schedule of shows starting at 5 PM. Mighty 1650 also dropped the requirement of all shows to be pre-recorded in late March.
In May of 2009 "Mighty 1650" was Forced off the air.
On June 8th 2009 "Mighty 1650" Signed back on air at 6 am with an oldies Format. Killing the Long running variety format. And Brought back the Classic "Mighty 1650".
On July 26th 2009 at 11pm TalkRadioX KTRX 99.9FM Signed On The Air.
On July 27th 2009 The Mighty Studios Were Struck By Lightening. Damaging 1650's Transmitter.
On July 29th 2009 Mighty 1650 moved to 99.9FM and Became Mighty 100.TalkRadioX KTRX Moved to 1650AM.
