Playing career
Don Bosco Tech HS
Kevin Mulholland is a former professional baseball player. As a pitcher for Don Bosco Tech HS, he comprised a 4-year varsity record of 34-6 with 6 No Hitters. Kevin played Center Field, and had a .400 batting average in his 4 years in High School at Don Bosco Tech HS. He was a First-Team All-State player in 1976-1977, and holds the distinction of having struck out 20 batters in a 7-inning game.
In what the Bergen Record called the "Game of the Century," Kevin pitched a No Hitter, and hit a 3-run home run against Pompton Lakes in the 1976 Passaic County Championship game. That year, the Bergen Record honored Don Bosco Tech HS as the "Team of the Century." Kevin pitched in and won the County Championship game, and the Parochial-B State Championship. To this day, Don Bosco Tech HS is the only Passaic County team to win both a County Championship and a State Championship in the same year. Kevin made the Bergen Record "All-Century Team" with the likes of Larry Doby, Ed Stanky, Greg Borgman, and Johnny Briggs.
As an All-State Basketball player with Don Bosco Tech HS, Kevin scored 1,350 points in his 3-year Varsity career. Having played in two State Parochial-B Championships and two Passaic County Championships, Kevin was the All-Time assist leader at Don Bosco Tech HS. He was invited to the prestigious "5-Star Baskeball Camp," and was mentored by legendary coaches Bob Hurley and Rick Pitino. Kevin credits Coach Hurley and Coach Pitino as being "big" influences in his life. After High School, Kevin received more than forty basketball scholarship offers.
Minor League Baseball
Kevin was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 3rd Round of the 1977 Major League Baseball Draft. He was drafted out of High School as the 76th player in the nation. Kevin played in the Minors in his first year, winning championships in the Class-A Northwest League with the Eugene EMS, a Minor League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. His coach was Greg Riddock who went on to coach the San Diego Padres. In his second year in the a Minors, Kevin's team won the Florida State League. That same year he made the All-Star Team, and was invited to play Winter Baseball in Puerto Rico. In his third year, Kevin was promoted to Double-A Nashville, and finished the season with Triple-A Indianapolis. Kevin was called up to the Cincinnati Reds in the Major Leagues in 1980 where he was influenced by Legends and Hall of Famers Tom Seaver, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench and Tony Perez. He credits them with having a significant impact on his coaching style and work ethic.
Retirement from Baseball-Present
After his baseball career, Kevin went on to become an All-American Fast-Pitch Softball player, and won an ASA Fast-Pitch National Championship. Today, Kevin is a highly-respected baseball, basketball, and fast-pitch softball trainer, consultant, and official at youth and amateur levels. Kevin is also a certified Umpire.
Kevin Mulholland is President of New Jersey All Wood Baseball and the New Jersey Sam Bat Fall Leagues.
