Kenny Alexander Hanlon (Born 10th March 1983) is a Scottish musician, (singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist). He also fronts another Indie/Rock/Alternative project called Chase Saturn. Born in Edinburgh, he has lived in several places in the UK but has spent most of his years in Livingston, a town just outside of the scottish capitol. He currently lives in North London, where he moved in March 2010 to focus on furthering his career. In 2008 he recorded the EP Chasing Saturn which was released through his own label KenCra Records and is available from iTunes, Napster, AmazonMP3, Rhapsody, eMusic and other digital stores. The EP contained 6 tracks, 5 of which were recorded at Urban Studios, Glasgow in the summer of that year, and the 6th track 'Wasted Youth' was recorded at The Soundstation, Livingston in late 2005. All tracks were written, produced and performed by Kenny including all instruments. At the time of writing (August 2010) he is currently working on demos for his first full length Chase Saturn album The Apostle which is planned to be released at some point later this year by KenCra Records. Brief History Kenny started playing guitar at age 14 after his father taught him his first 3 chords, and about 2 months later began taking lessons at school. Shortly after this he persuaded his parents to buy him a drum kit and send him to a private tutor after initially being self taught from playing a beaten up old drum kit at school on his lunch break and occasionally after hours. Learning both these instruments would later become important assets in his songwriting. After penning his first full song with music and lyrics at age 15, he became obsessed and would sit alone with his acoustic guitar, a notepad and pen at every opportunity. His parents knew he regularly wrote and recorded music, however he never let them hear any of it until 2002 when at age 19 they persuaded him to enter a regional songwriting competition being organised by the West Lothian Youth Action Project (YAP). The event was sponsored by Drinkwise Scotland and the theme of the competition was about the dangers of alcohol abuse. Kenny entered with a song called 'Water for the Weak' and won first prize which included studio time, a music video, and local press coverage. The song was recorded at Split Level Studios in Edinburgh and released as part of a 3 track CD titled Challenge The Myths (YAP Records). This massive confidence boost was exactly what was needed for him to take his songwriting more seriously and break out of the bedroom. Less than a year later Kenny had moved out of his parents house and into his own flat, and he took full advantage of this new freedom by writing and recording as much as possible which would result in a 10 track demo titled 'The Shape of Things to Come'. The album was never released but proved to be a good excercise in terms of playing with different ideas and sounds. In 2006 he embarked on a mini acoustic tour of America in which he spent a week in New York and a week in Los Angeles, playing in legendary venues such as The Cat Club, Rockwood Music Hall, Piano's and the world famous CBGB's. He returned to Los Angeles again in 2007 and 2009 staying for 3 weeks on both occasions, which saw him return to The Cat Club twice and also perform for the first time in The Viper Room and The Roxy Theatre. The Future Once he has finished recording The Apostle, Kenny plans to give Chase Saturn a full line up by putting a band together and begin gigging and promoting the album. A possible relocation to Los Angeles is on the cards but at this stage it is not possible to say if or when that will happen. Discography 2002 - 'Water for the Weak' featured on Challenge The Myths.
