Kelly O

Kelly O (born Kelly O'Neil 1973) is a Seattle street photographer and music writer. Her work is published under the name Kelly O.
Her photographs capture contemporary life in the Seattle music and art scenes, focusing on Capitol Hill concert-goers and lowbrow street fashion. Her photographs are typically portraits of single individuals in the midst of a chaotic or surreal scenes and are characterized by use of flash and bold color. She has also documented the culture of American juggalos, attending and photographing the Gathering of the Juggalos.
Born in Michigan, Kelly O attended art school in Detroit before moving to Seattle in 1998. Since then, she has worked as a staff writer, columnist, and photographer for weekly newspaper The Stranger. Her weekly street life column is called Drunk of the Week. Her photos of people were shown in Seattle gallery Vermillion in 2012. Her work was also featured in a show at Easy Street Records. She has written about current Seattle culture for The Bold Italic. She is also a filmmaker, and filmed the original video of Dan Savage and Terry Miller for the It Gets Better project.
