Kay Rush is born Kathleen Kay Rusch (Milwaukee, Wisconsin - January 6, 1961). She is a journalist, writer, radio broadcaster, television show writer and host, and blogger. She is Japanese American with Italian dual citizenship. Biography Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin of a Japanese mother and Swiss German father. She has an older brother, Michael. Their father left them shortly after Kay was born. They grew up with their mother in Parklawn housing projects, until her mother remarried when Kay was eleven. She enrolled in UW-Milwaukee when she was sixteen years old. She studied creative writing. At eighteen, she moved to New York and shortly after departed for Paris where she lived for six months. That same year, 1980, she arrived in Milan where she resided for over twenty years. She has lived in Europe, Spain, Italy, and France most of her adult life. Years in Italy In Milan Italy she begins working as a deejay at Le Cinemà club. She is discovered by entrepreneur Claudio Cecchetto who hires her to work at his radio station, Radio Dee Jay. She became a sound technician and the nighttime music programmer. In 1984, Cecchetto creates Italy’s first music video television program, Dee Jay Television, where Kay becomes one of the presenters and she interviews the international rock and pop stars. In 1987, she is M.C. for RAIUNO, Italy’s national television channel. She hostsHit Parade, and then Discoring. Kay hosts two editions of the San Remo Music Festival. In 1987, she works as a journalist with her own segment RAITRE in the television showVa' Pensiero. In 1990, Kay becomes a professional sommelier and journalist on the foreign press list in Italy. She spends many years mountain climbing and traveling, passing many months in India, Nepal, and Peru. In 1990, she moves to the Italian Alps, in the Dolomite region. She participates in mountain expeditions to Mont Blanc, Pisco, Kilimanjaro, Matterhorn, Chopicalqui, Tocllaraju. The '90s She returns to the United States to study at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York. Italian TV producer Giorgio Gori offers her a job as co-host of Canale 5’s (Berlusconi’s channel) for Pressing, a Sunday night soccer program. She returns to Italy to co-host with actor Raimondo Vianello. She wins a Telegatto, the Italian equivalent for an Emmy. Kay is awarded numerous prizes for her work as a presenter and journalist on the program. In 1992, Kay leaves television to dedicate herself to the theater. her first major role is Helena Charles in John Osbourne's ‘Look Back In Anger’. Her acting career continues in the film industry working alongside, John Savage, Richard Roundtree and Aitana Sanchez-Gijon. In 1995, Kay returns to television to co-write and present two documentaries, 'Nepal' and 'The Sky Runners in Tibet', for Italian cable television. For three successive years, Kay co-hosts the Labor Day concert in Italy, Concerto del Primo Maggio, broadcast live internationally. In 1998, she moves to the South of France and shortly after she begins working at Radio Montecarlo - Italy. She moves back to Milan, where she begins working as music programmer and host of the the late night show Montecarlo Nights. She is responsible for introducing genreslounge, chill out, and nu jazz to Italian radio. The 2000s While working for Radio Montecarlo, she accepts a job in Madrid, Spain for Telecinco as presenter of Nosolomúsica. In 2003, she leaves Radio Montecarlo to dedicate herself to Nosolomúsica where she also becomes one of the writers of the show. In 2003, she marries Spaniard, Ismael Santos Rodriguez, ex-captain of Real Madrid basketball team. After four years in Spain, she returns to Italy and to Radio Montecarlo where she creates and hosts two programs: Rush Hour, a daily live three-hour talk show that is broadcast from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Unlimited, a recorded deep house music show that is broadcast Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening - from 9:00 to 11:00. Unlimited is Italy’s first deep house music show. From 2005 to 2010, Kay releases 9 double cd compilations of the series, Kay Rush Presents Unlimited. In 2007 and 2008 she is the official host of Arco Rock Legends, the awards ceremony for Arco Rock Master, a prestigious rock climbing competition. In 2007 her first novel. 'The Seed Of Desire' is published by Sonzogno - Rizzoli Publishing. In 2008 and 2009, she is the on-camera interviewer for the Trento Film Festival. In 2009, she created and hosted The Final Rush - 2009 U.S.A. Elections on Radio Montecarlo. In 2009 Kay was called to participate as a commentator on Italian television for the Michael Jackson Memorial Service, broadcast live on Italia Uno. Current In April 2010 Kay Rush Presents Unlimited 9 is released on Time Records. In 2010, her second novel, A Winter Love Story, is published with Marsilio Publishing.
