Kappa Xi Kappa

Kappa Xi Kappa Fraternity (KΞK) is a social, local fraternity. Founded at New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1964.

The ideals of the fraternity: Courage, Patriotism, Yearning for knowledge, and Uniqueness.

Creed

As a member of Kappa Xi Kappa, I recognize my obligation to observe the precepts of the fraternity as set forth in the constitution; to support the fraternity, to the best of my ability, in all activities and commitments; accept cheerfully my full share, however menial, involved in maintaining a chapter home; preserve and promote the chosen ideals of my fraternity; pay all personal bills and always live within my means; help create in my chapter home an environment in which enduring friendships may be formed; maintain a creditable scholastic record; promote the welfare of my chosen profession; and maintain my self-respect by proper conduct at all times.

History
Founding

The fraternity of Kappa Xi Kappa took shape in December 1964. There were 43 charter brothers, who elected the following as officers:

* Tom Reinhardt - First President of Kappa Xi Kappa.
* Milt Eckert - First Vice President of Kappa Xi Kappa.
* Dave Stewart - First Secretary of Kappa Xi Kappa.
* John Bauerle - First Treasurer of Kappa Xi Kappa.
* Frank Romano - First Historian of Kappa Xi Kappa.

Timeline

* 1965 - Kappa Xi Kappa moves rents house at 151 Plane St.
* 1967 - Kappa Xi Kappa begins pledging Alpha Chi Rho (AXP), a national fraternity.
* 1968 - KΞK moves to 109 Central Ave. Discontinues pledgin AXP.
* 1972 - Omicron pledge class finishes late and has the longest pledge trip in Kappa Xi Kappa history, 23 hours!
* 1979 - Due to a housing dispute KΞK is scheduled to move to 154 Warren St. Later the owner of 154 Warren St. refuses to pay KΞK for their renovation work or allow KΞK to move in.
* 1980 - 299 High St. becomes the temporary home of KΞK, while 76 Sussex Ave.'s tenants move out. Four consecutive house fires at 76 Sussex Ave. makes 299 High St the new home of KΞK.
* 1984 - Sigma Delta Phi, ΣΔΦ, begins a Little Sister Program with KΞK. Xi II commits suicide by jumping out of a car window. KΞK moves to 9 Sussex Ave where a month later the previous tenants attempt to burn the house down with two Molotov cocktails...what a year!
* 1988 - Shots fired on house. Only damage was the third floor window.
* 1994 - KΞK pays off the mortgage!
* 2006 - Electrical fire at 9 Sussex Ave. Brotherhood spends entire summer repairing the house.

Kappa Xi Kappa currently has a brotherhood of 14 members.

Traditions and Awards
Leonard Gabel Award
Award created in the memory of Leonard Gabel. Given to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the spirit of KΞK.

Pie / Mashed Potatoes (No Gravy) in the Face Awards
Annually given to a selected KΞK member.

Award given to the alumni for most consistent active support.

Traditions
Among the Kappa Xi Kappa traditions lie the legendary oip, invented by Wacko, and the battle wagon.
Some annual trips involve canoe trip and the annual ski trip.

Brotherhood Achievements

I.F.S.C. "Uglyman contest is won. (1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970)

"Beauty and the Beast" contest is won. (1969)

Kappa Xi Kappa wins the I.F.S.C. talent show. (1970, 1998)

Kappa Xi Kappa wins the TKE Trivia Trophy 3 times.

Basketball team wins 1st place. (1974, 2001)

Bowling team wins 1st place. (1975, 1987)

Soccer team wins 1st place. (2001)

Kappa Xi Kappa wins the "Tour de Tech" (2004, 2006)

Kappa Xi Kappa take 1st in Greek Week (2007)
