Kaphle

Kaphle or Kafle is a surname of some Nepalese people of Indo-Aryan origin. The people with this surname derive it from the word "Kafel", a reddish-pink fruit found in the hills of the Himalayan range. Initially a depiction for skin color (or reddish people), or descendants of Sandalya rishi who meditated for many years solely thriving on "Bel" fruit (in the version of late Yogi Narhari Nath).

In modern times "Kaphle" surname group have created their own bansabali (ancestry) and traced their roots to remote mountain Jumla District of Nepal. Migrating from there, they have settled in different locations in the hills and plains of Nepal. Initially Purbia Brahimins, now Chetri and even mixed international marriages have resulted spreading from Germany to Taiwan and elsewhere.
