Kambiz Alavian

Kambiz N. Alavian, Ph.D. is an Iranian-American neuroscientist and a lecturer in the Division of Brain Sciences, Department of Medicine at Imperial College London. He is also an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine.
Early life and education
Alavian received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in biological sciences from University of Illinois at Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from University of Heidelberg in Germany and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Yale University School of Medicine.
Career
In 2011, in an article published by Nature Cell Biology, Dr. Alavian and his co-authors found that Bcl-xL regulates metabolic efficiency of neurons through interaction with the mitochondrial F1FO ATP synthase.
Alavian's research in recent years has been focused on the molecular characterization of mitochondrial bioenergetics, calcium homeostasis, and cell death.
Awards
In 2012, he received Young Bioenergeticist Award given by the Biophysical Society.
