Kamal Ibrahim was born in Limerick, Ireland on November 10th, 1985. Son to a Nigerian father and Italian mother Kamal was raised as an Irish catholic spending the majority of his life in his hometown of Limerick. Before his first birthday his family returned to Lagos, Nigeria where Kamal spent the next 8 years growing up. His father, Abdul Ibrahim was a successful hotelier and restauranteur owning several restaurants in Lagos. In 1994, after the Nigerian economy was thrown into turmoil following the civil war, he and his family returned to Limerick where Kamal who by now was the eldest of two children, rooted himself in his home town. Kamal graduated secondary school with less than average grades however went on to study Electronic Engineering in the Limerick Institute of Technology. Kamal who was only 17 years old going into college was planning on entering the Royal Air Force on completing his degree and living out his childhood dream as a fast jet pilot. However, due to the events of 9/11 which sparked the international crisis in the middle east, the rules of entry into the RAF changed disqualifying Kamal from persuing his goals as a pilot in the British military as an Irish applicant. Kamal left college after 1 year and went into full time employment working in various jobs while saving to put himself through flight school. In 2005, just after returning from Florida with his Private Pilots License, now 19 years old, Kamal began modeling in Limerick with the Holman Lee Agency. In 2009, Kamal was approached to enter the male pageant Mr Ireland, which he went on to win on July 31st 2009. Winning the competition guaranteed him a place in the Mr World final which was held in South Korea in March of 2010. After 3 weeks of competition Kamal took the first prize and claimed the title of Mr World 2010. Kamal has since began working towards a career on television and hopes to host his own popular TV show sometime in the future. His now lives in Dublin, Ireland and works with the MWO (Miss World Organisation) as a representative, role model and embassador. Kamal, the Limerick man who was once viewed as a foreigner in his own country has gone on to be described as the face of modern Ireland.
