Kafue Province is an area covering Kaoma, Lukulu, Mulobezi, Kabompo , Mumbwa, Itezhi Itezhi and Kazungula that has been proposed to be created in the Republic of Zambia, Africa as the 11th Province of the country. Tribes The area is predominantly occupied by various ethnic groups such as the Nkoya, Ila, Tonga, Kwangwa, Mbundas, Luvales, Chokwes, etc. However, the Nkoya speaking people amongst others are considered the natives who have lived in the area since the 6th Century when Nkoyas are believed to have arrived from the ancient Luba-Lunda Kingdoms. History The Kafue Province idea was first proposed by HRH Paramount Chief Mwene Mutondo of the Nkoya speaking people in the 1940s to the British colonial government when the creation of what would become known as Provinces of Zambia commenced. According to available historical data held by the Nkoya Royal Establishment and is available on special request in Ma-Nkoya (known as Kaoma today), the proposal had reached the British Colonial government of Northern Rhodesia who obliged to create a separate province in Western Zambia which would be known as the Kafue Province. It is recorded in Nkoya historical material. The Nkoya Royal Council held a meeting 08th April, 2012 in Kaoma district at which the Council of Nkoya traditional leaders agreed amongst other things, * To have HRH Chief Mwene Mutondo be elevated to the status of Paramount Chief of the Nkoya speaking people. * The NRC also called for the removal of any other individuals calling themselves Chiefs in Nkoya areas particularly those claiming to represent Barotse Royal Establisment. The calls for the formation of Kafue Province have gained momentum on the back of events that have rocked Zambia's Western Province were a neighboring Royal Establishment that calls itself the "Barotse Royal Establishment" that has been pushing for the restoration of an abrogated document called the "Barotseland Agreemen"t of 1964. In the document the B.R.E.(Barotse Royal Establishment) claim that they control what is now known as Western Province Zambia and includes much of the Nkoya areas that form part of the proposed Kafue Province.
