'K-1ine' is an online magazine featuring technical information about hacking, phreaking, electronics, and privacy issues. Started by The Clone (of Nettwerked, HackCanada), K-1ine Magazine is 100% text-only, distributed in electronic form. K-1ine was started in 1999 as a way to bring the Canadian H/P scene together, and so far it has enjoyed many article submissions, hundreds of K-1ine mailing list subscribers, and many thousands of readers since it was created. The name comes from a mix of Leetspeak and the IRC term K-line, or Kill Line. To reflect the magazine's appeal to hacker-types, the "l" in "K-line" has been replaced with a "1". This yields "K-1ine", which is somewhat of a joke phrase to hackers. History The first issue of K-1ine (on his web-site Nettwerked) was released in June 1999 and its final issue (#51) was released in April 2008. It began as a "wheneverly" e-zine, being released whenever The Clone had enough time, and article submissions, to compile what he thought was a 'complete' article. The Clone also joined the Hack Canada crew in 1999. K-1ine was then mirrored on www.HackCanada.com, which massively increased its distribution. Consequently, the following issue [http://www.nettwerked.net/K1ine_5.txt K-1ine #5 - Follow Me Down] in the summer of 2000, the magazine experienced a surge of popularity. The Clone then began releasing it in a monthly format. This continued until [http://www.nettwerked.net/K1ine_39.txt K-1ine #39 - There is no ()fork] was released in May of 2003. Article submissions were down, and The Clone began releasing K-1ine quarterly. The quarterly format was continued until [http://www.nettwerked.net/K1ine_47.txt K-1ine #47 - SIX F*CKING YEARS] was released in 2005. The electronic magazine then went back to its original "wheneverly" format, due again to lack of article submissions. The magazine was being put out as often as possible by The Clone and near the end of its 8 year run had an increase in submissions. The final issue, [http://www.nettwerked.net/K-1ine_51.txt K-1ine #51 - K-1ine Forever], was released on April 20, 2008. To this day K-1ine is believed to be one the longest running hacker and phone phreaking (h/p) e-zine in Canada. K-1ine has received articles from a number of internationally-known hacker-types, including Lucky225 (), and many others.
