Jyotish Chandra De

Colonel Jyotish Chandra De IMS was a doctor in the Indian army and a civil servant.
Career
As a doctor in the Maratha Light Infantry, he saw action in the Battle of Kut-el-Amara in Mesopotamia during the First World War. After his return to India, he was attached to the Military Hospital in Ambala. Later, he came back to Calcutta and was attached to the Military Hospital in Alipore. After that he became the Resident Physician of Calcutta Medical College, where his responsibilities included civil work. From 1923-24 he was the Civil Surgeon of Chittagong. Back in Calcutta he was appointed as the Police Surgeon and then as Professor of Clinical Medicine at Calcutta Medical College. He became the Chief Medical Officer of Campbell Medical Hospital, Calcutta,. Later, he became Principal of Calcutta Medical College, Calcutta from 1939 - 1941.
