Jurassic Park IV: The New Approach

In a 2002 interview with Steven Spielberg, the hailed director of the first two Jurassic Park films, Spielberg told that production on a fourth film in the JP franchise would begin soon. The third film in the series, Jurassic Park III had been released just one year previous. However, currently, the film is in "production hell".
Early Writing
When everything was offialized, screenwriter William Monahan was hired to pen a script. Once it was done and submitted, the film's distribution company, Universal Pictures, found it "less than satisfying." Many revisions were made until finally, the script was scrapped. Rumors circled that the film's plot was to run along the lines that were originally planned for Jurassic Park III; it involved a deadly disease rampaging across the fictional islands of Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna that threatened to wipe out the dinosaurs on both of them. This is why JP3 was nearly named Jurassic Park: Extinction. However, this plot was eliminated, under a plan to be reused in JP4. In the end, many scripts were submitted for the film, but none seemed to make the cut.
Production Hell
In the past eight years since the third film was released, JP4 has been in "production hell". A variety of different scripts were submitted but all turned out unsuccessful. Then in 2008, the producers of the past three films, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall announced to the public that Jurassic Park IV was cancelled. When asked if there would be any further production on the film, Kennedy stated, "No... I don't know. You know, when Michael Crichton died, we thought, maybe, that's it. Maybe that's a sign not to mess with it." However, there was a more posotive answer from Marshall who, when asked the same question, answered, "Maybe, but as of now, you could call it a long shot." This response sparked much enthusiasm in fans everywhere, but no new information on its production has been released to the public.
The Newest Script
It has been at least five years since any script for the film has been written. And as of February 2009, sixteen year-old Michael Rogers has been penning a script for the film that should be completed in early December 2009. On November 8, 2009, in a Wikipeida interview, Rogers stated: "I think that seeing where Jurassic Park III went wrong showed me how to write this..." He later stated, "I saw that it was simply a movie overwhelmed with dinosaurs. It was in debt of any sort of plot and it basically required no script. So for this one, I've (tried) to incorporate as much twists and turns as there are intense scenes." Whether or not this statement will prove to be true is unknown until the story itself is revealed. Despite the fact that it is an unhired write, Rogers states that he is "beyond confident" that his script will be successsful. It is the first script he has written and he states that it is a "completely original story that will have some characteristics that veer closely to Crichton's books." Not very much about this is revealed at the moment except that the characters of Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ian Malcolm return as the main protagonists, and that the character of Dr. Richard Levine, who was a main character in the book, The Lost World, will have a significant role in the story.
