JumboCast specializes in broadcasting and streaming live webcasts for Tufts University events, including university-related athletic events, lectures hosted by the University, and student group performances. It is currently Tufts University's only streaming web content provider. JumboCast streamed over 75 events for 2004-2005, completed over 85 events in 2005-2006. And in 2008-2009 could easily make it to 90 webcasts. JumboCast has seen most of its growth recently, setting new viewership records in October 2005 (386 stream hits) and then again in February 2006. Fall 2008 saw football viewership regularly reach 350 unique IP address's per game. JumboCast's current viewership record - 1,258 total stream hits for a single webcast, in March 2006 featuring Tufts men's basketball vs. Amherst College in the NCAA Division-III tournament "Sweet-16" round - is more than three times that of JumboCast's 2005 October record. JumboCast's streams are available free using the Windows Media streaming format on JumboCast's webpage. All streams feature both video and audio coverage. History JumboCast is currently a Tufts University recognized student-organization, founded in 2001 by Tufts alumnus Steve Clay. It was initially founded by Clay as a means to continue coverage of Tufts football and basketball games, which he had done via Tufts University radio station WMFO since the early 1990s. Under Clay, JumboCast grew to include coverage of most Tufts sports, including baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, field hockey, men's and women's basketball and volleyball. JumboCast became an officially-recognized student group of Tufts University during the 2005-2006 school year, and was the recipient of the 2006 Tufts University Evergreen Award, awarded annually by the Office of Student Activities to the top new student-group. JumboCast has in the past been contracted by the University to stream and archive campus lectures and forums by a number of prominent individuals. They have also created several videography pieces that have been featured on the Tufts University webpage. JumboCast's current General Manager is Tufts Senior, Charlie Powell. Today, JumboCast is considered the top webcasting group in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). It has covered a number of events and championships. Furthermore, demonstrating JumboCast's excellence, its personnel have been contracted out to produce NESCAC and NCAA championships at a number of sites throughout the East Coast, including the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
