The Journal of Atrial Fibrillation or JAFIB is an Open Access journal publishing original papers and reviews on Atrial Fibrillation and cardiac electrophysiology. It was officially launched in conjunction with the Heart Rhythm Society May 2008, and releases one issue every two months. Open Access In the interests of Open Access, the journal does not charge for publication or for subscriptions. The costs for running the journal are obtained via sponsorships and advertisements. This is "an attempt to challenge the conventional scholarly publishing model, with the aim to make knowledge free for all". This model differs from commonly used business model of charging for publishing in open access journals (Ref : PLoS Business model). The journal also has a "Meet the Expert" section which allows patients to questions directly of the doctors who write for it.
