Joshua Ky

Joshua Ky, March 25, 1964 is the first Vietnamese-American billionaire. He is a Vietnamese American entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. His success and some of his biography has been publicizing in many truth worthy publications including The New York Times, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and San Francisco Chronicle, as well as an interview with CBS News in New York, 1996. As of June 1999, his assets were about $9,7 billion. Joshua was rank number 33rd riches person in the world, and the world riches Vietnamese American in 1999, but then publication had to cease publicizing and removed his name out of the list by court order in the year 2000, after Joshua won the litigation. Beginning in 1984, Joshua first found work as part time job at Microsoft then full time job as software developer. He left Microsoft in 1987 and start his own business whilst the palmy days of technology. Joshua started a company, Bright Networking and Communications. His company was initially provide a Computer Networking Services, ISP (Internet Service Provider) to end user and corporation, Corporation Integrate Telephony Systems, and Networking Administration for midsize corporation. With some of Cisco routers, three computer technicians, and few customers, Bright Networking and Communication became the only door to door service company to its clients. In 1990, Bright Networking and Communications had grown to 2 million customers in ISP department, and 3000 corporations and $26.6 million in revenue for the second quarter. In March 25, 1992, during the dot com boom, Bright Networking and Communication was acquired by MCI WorldCom, Telecommunication for $4,4 billion in cash.
After the sale of Bright Networking and Communications, Joshua continued to focus on technology. He then formed the Fiber Optical Data System to manufacture the micro fiber telecom chipset and telecom fiber circuit board. His clients were Fujitsu, Alcatel, and Ericsson. In 1995, he sold Fiber Optical Data System to MFS Communications for $2 billion in cash and stock. In August 1996, MFS Communications was acquired by WorldCom for $12 billion. His MFS stocks benefited from that merger.
He also an inventor of the Voice Recognition (computer analysis of the human voice, especially for the purposes of interpreting words and phrases or identifying an individual voice.). In 1999, the application was then purchased by Lernout & Hauspie, before the financial scandals. The acquired was report as $1,5 billion, and $600 million royal fee in 20 years payment.
On August 2001, Joshua begin to diversify his investment to avoid the crash of the IT market. Some of his wealth was invested into real estate and some was in commodity, Energy, investment fund and banking. His real estate rollin around the world as: Las Vegas (US), Hong Kong (mix use building), Singapore (commerce building, hotel), Shanghai (residential), London (hotel), Paris (residential), and other countries in Southeast Asia. The real estate portfolio has an estimated value of $2.3 billion, and It's been created a profits of hundreds of millions. As same as his investment in commodities such as Oil and Gas in Middle East, East Texas, and Coal from Indonesia that would worth $2.4 billion.
In 2000, Joshua had spent $85 million to launch a campaign and litigation against publications, journalists about "privacy, personal and safety". His purpose was to stop publicizing about his personal life, and his direct family members without his permission. Joshua finally won a litigation in several states in US, and other countries in Europe, since then his name very seldom to show on the fortune list, and public. He is well known that could easily crush any journalist, or publication, which sticks its nose where it doesn’t belong.
In 2005, There was not many his profile on the internet. It's very difficult to have his track record since he won a litigation, and also because his residency register under many addresses in US, and oversea. Many corporations, Investment firms under his ownership but not listed him as an owner. He earned a reputation as "the quiet billionaire" among his friends. He also well known as " a backpack billionaire", as his travel habit with his JanSport backpack from one country to the other. It's hard to believed he is a billionaire while he has a very simple life, not like many other billionaires, but he travel in luxury. Most of his travel was taking off from his private jets, the 2008 Global Express XRS. His sport hobby is golf, and willing to cross the continent for a round of golf with his best friend.
Beside his contribution to major charitable organizations in US, Joshua has made some charitable donation during 2002 - 2005 in Vietnam. He met with Mr. Nguyen Vinh Nghiep a former Governor of Ho Chi Minh City and a philanthropist who form the Hoi Bao Tro Benh Nhan Ngheo (HBTBNN). In 2005, Mr. Nghiep and with Joshua's fund set to end the The Smile for the Young program by the year of 2010. The program had run for 2 years, but not last to 2010 and ended in 2007 when the heartbroken News that to farewell Mr. Nghiep (d. Nov, 2007). He and Mr. Nghiep also setting a contributing program giving a 1000 wheelchair per year, and Joshua did delivery the 2000 wheelchairs before Nov 2007. Yet, not only the charitable he had contribute, Joshua also supporting the Vietnamese fish farmer during the anti-dumping catfish launch by CFA (Catfish Farmer of America) and USDoC (US Department of Commerce). In 2002, Joshua and his advisors had met Dr. Nguyen Huu Dung, a former General Secretary of VASEP to discussed about his opinion and supporting, Joshua then spend approximate about $1.3 million to hired a well reputation lobbying company in Washington for 2 years to counseling VASEP (Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporter and Producers) in the Anti-Dumping case.
