Josh M Rosenthal (born January 26th, Melbourne Australia) is an actor and an artist specializing in oil on canvas.

Born in Melbourne Australia, Josh M. Rosenthal was afforded an affluent upbringing by his Jewish immigrant parents. His mother Alfreda migrated with her mother, father and uncle from Warsaw, Poland in 1948 after surviving the horrors and persecutions of the Nazis. Josh's paternal grandfather was Morris Rose, a broadway producer and former partner of Lew Fields (Weber & Fields) from the 1920's who produced such musical hits and productions as and among others. Josh's great great grandmother and great grandfather arrived as new immigrants to Australia from Kovno (now Lithuania) in 1869.

At home, Josh was surrounded by their significant Australian art collection which included such artist's as Charles Blackman and John Percival who left an impressionable influence on him. Joshua took up painting at age 13 when his mother and father divorced, the family fortune was lost and Joshua was diagnosed with diabetes type 1.

The sense of isolation Josh felt became his focus and oil and canvas became his most powerful means of expression and is recognized in his work today. The viewer forms a relationship with the characters, both human and animal, in Joshua's works. The irony being that at first look the figures seem isolated and lonely but upon living with them they become good company.

Joshua began his art education and Wesley College In Melbourne where he was distinguished with the Art Award for Excellence and graduated with the highest mark in the state in art. As a consequence he was invited to exhibit in Australia's national public galleries as part of a
touring show.
