Joseph Sinagra

Joseph Sinagra (born December 20, 1946 in New Brunswick, New Jersey) is an American Republican Party politician, who was a 2006 congressional candidate for the United States House of Representatives in New Jersey's 12th congressional district.

Sinagra is the son of parents Ciro and Rose Sinagra. Sinagra is the oldest of four children, with a brother Ciro (deceased), and two sisters Mary and Julie. Sinagra lives in Helmetta, New Jersey with his wife, the former Patricia Genito, where their children Joe, Jeff (deceased), and Michele were raised.
After serving in the United States Air Force 1st Air Commando Wing (TAC) during the Vietnam War era, Sinagra attended Middlesex County College and Union County College for Business Management. He has owned several small businesses, and is employed as Facilities Manager for Miele Corporate Headquarters located in Princeton, New Jersey and former CEO of My Plumber Inc.
Sinagra held a seat on the Helmetta Planning Board, was Emergency Management Coordinator, and a Helmetta Councilman from 1989 to 1998 (serving three terms on several committees), also as Council President for seven years. Returning in 1999 to fill in for a one year vacated seat (picked by majority Democratic Council). Sinagra has also served as Chairman of the Helmetta Republican Party, presently the Vice-Chair, and was the Republican nominee for Middlesex County Clerk challenging incumbent Democrat Elaine Flynn in 2005.
2006 Congressional election
Sinagra was the Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in New Jersey's 12th congressional district, challenging incumbent Democrat Rush D. Holt Jr. in the 2006 mid-term elections, in a district that covers portions of Hunterdon County, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County and Somerset County.
Holt defeated Sinagra by almost 2-1, earning 115,413 votes to Sinagra's 60,443. Sinagra's best results were in Middlesex County.
The bare-bones campaign of Joseph Sinagra against Rush Holt received 35% of the vote, just 2% less than former Secretary of State Buster Soaries won in 2002 after spending $1 million and in a better year for Republicans.
2007 New Jersey Assembly election
Sinagra ran for a seat in the New Jersey General Assembly located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, representing the 18th Legislative District, where both seats are held by incumbent Democrats. He ran uncontested in the 2007 election primaries. Facing 2-1 odds, Sinagra won 4 out of 7 towns in the General Election and missed winning the assembly seat by less than a 6% margin, spending .75 per vote against the incumbents $20 per vote.
2009 New Jersey Assembly election
Joseph Sinagra of Helmetta was endorsed at the Middlesex County GOP screening committee, and nominated by the Republican organization as their 2009 candidate for 18th District State Assembly. The district includes East Brunswick, Edison, Helmetta, Metuchen, South Plainfield, South River and Spotswood. Sinagra came within 2,202 votes of winning the 2009 Assembly seat. This was a feat in itself for a district of 108,632 registered voters, 13.1% as Republican and 28.1% registered Democrats. In 2009, Sinagra came within 2,226 votes of winning the State Assembly, receiving a better percentage (a 3% margin) vote than almost any other Republican challenger anywhere in the State of New Jersey.
In Middlesex County’s District 18, Assemblyman Peter Barnes and Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan won their election rematch against Republican challenger Joe Sinagra, but saw their margin of victory cut in half from 2007 - from 4,000 to 2,000 votes.

Conservatives With Attitude said, "Joe Sinagra is running for the Assembly in New Jersey's 18th Legislative District. He has taken a strong stand for legal residents in New Jersey and across America. New Jersey needs more legislators like Joe Sinagra. Sinagra stands for a pro-growth, pro-taxpayer, pro-property rights, agenda."
Receiving the 2009 endorsement from CWA, they had this to say about Joe Sinagra, "If anyone can face a strong challenge that is in front of him and overcome it, it is Joe Sinagra. An Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War, a husband, father and a good man, there needs to be more Joe Sinagra’s serving in Public Office."
Receiving the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey endorsement in 2007, CIANJ said, “This candidate is committed to creating jobs, reducing New Jersey’s regulatory burden, and improving the overall economic climate of our state. With an anticipated deficit in next year’s budget, projected to be more than $2.2 billion, it is critical that this candidate, who believes in smaller government, is elected to the New Jersey legislature." and again receiving the endorsement in 2009, PENPAC chair Richard Goldberg said "Joe Sinagra represents the principles of free enterprise, limited government, and job expansion through economic development.”
