Jonathan Stratford

Jonathan Stratford, known as Jon Stratford, (born 1976) is a former Royal Marine Commando Physical Training Instructor (PTI) who became the Catlin Arctic Survey Team's personal trainer in 2008 and is now head PTI for Ultimate Boot Camp. A keen sportsman, he holds various instructor qualifications from climbing through to Advanced Instructor level 3 for the Register of Exercise Professionals.
Early life
Straford was born in Yeovil, Somerset, England in 1976. He attended the Royal Hospital School, Ipswich from 1989-1994 and then went on to join Her Majesty's Royal Marine Commandos. During his time within the Marines he trained and operated in many countries throughout the world, from within the Arctic Circle to the Far East. He was sat off Hong Kong on board HMS Fearless when it was handed back to the Chinese in 1997 and he served in Iraq in 2003. He is Arctic and desert warfare trained and was also a ships protection officer.
Filming
As a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) within the Royal Marines he instructed, mentored and coached many new recruits, most notably he was the PTI for 924 Troop who were filmed by Chris Terrill (award winning director/cameraman) for the documentary Commando: On the Front Line. He also acted as the instructor for Chris’ successful attempt of becoming the oldest person to earn his green beret at the tender age of 55, which was documented in the programme The 55 Year Old Commando. On leaving the Marines he established himself as a personal trainer and he has had a wide range of high profile clients.
Physical training
He is the personal trainer and fitness advisor to the Catlin Arctic Survey team, Pen Hadow, Ann Daniels and photographer Martin Hartley, for their 1,200-mile (2,000-kilometre) expedition to survey the thickness of the remaining polar ice cap.
His work for Ultimate Boot Camp sees him educating and developing people to enable them to achieve their personal lifestyle and fitness goals in the most realistic and sustainable way.
